Workshop: A sharing by a Catholic priest on homosexualityscaryy...
April 9th, 2007
“A sharing by a Catholic priest on homosexuality”
Date: 17 April 2007, Tuesday
Time: 730pm
Venue: Free Community Church
The Catholic church calls homosexuality an “objective disorder”. A disorder because obviously it contravenes their moral sensitivities because the bible (and hence, the church) says so. And objective because there is no leeway for interpretation. For example, if you were to get involved in a car accident that results in a fatality, there is no arguing that someone has died. Similarly, if you’ve engaged in homosexual sex, you can’t deny that it’s not real sex because you are straight.
So where does this leave us gay Christians, or Catholics? Do we hide in the closet whilst living a double identity, pious Christians on Sunday, and heinous men-loving deviants the rest of the week?
Safehaven is proud to present a session of intimate sharing by Fr. Albert Renckens, Dutch by birth, Singaporean by residence (of over 30 years), and Catholic by religious beliefs. Learn about his personal opinions on homosexuality, and ask him the hardest question of them all: “is it ok to be gay and Christian”.
DonÂ’t miss out on this rare opportunity to understand the CatholicÂ’s churchÂ’s stand on homosexuality. A must for Christians from all denominations!
yeap. My usual stance is to love the person but hate the sin. I know of a few gay Catholics and they really have a rough time. Al lthe social stigma and whatnotsOriginally posted by mhcampboy:scaryy...

There will always be Churches embracing homosexuality. It's inevitable i guess. I mean look, there will always be Christians that have a proclivity towards the same gender. And they won't want to give up on their faith too. You see where i'm heading?Originally posted by mhcampboy:do australia have those kind of churches like above...?

but a church is suppose to be the base of a persons faith...Originally posted by ben1xy:There will always be Churches embracing homosexuality. It's inevitable i guess. please, which church recognise that the other churches teach 100% the right things?Originally posted by mhcampboy:but a church is suppose to be the base of a persons faith...
if the church teaches wrong things... wouldnt things go wrong!?
But they justify it with Bible verses. The workings of the Protestant faith is slightly different. If members are not happy, they can quit the church and form a new one and make sure that their doctrine falls in tandem with their world view.Originally posted by mhcampboy:but a church is suppose to be the base of a persons faith...

yes.. but still most of it is just minor details...Originally posted by laurence82:please, which church recognise that the other churches teach 100% the right things?
even among Christians, every square inch of the Bible has been fought and argued over

so in the end how?Originally posted by ben1xy:But they justify it with Bible verses. The workings of the Protestant faith is slightly different. If members are not happy, they can quit the church and form a new one and make sure that their doctrine falls in tandem with their world view.
For Catholics, we are guided by Scripture, Tradition and the Mageisterium. And the church has the power to excommunicate members that adopt doctrines against our central beliefs
minor meh?Originally posted by mhcampboy:yes.. but still most of it is just minor details...
but this is something which goes against the doctrines of both catholics and christians...
I did try to read up on their justification. Some even insinuate that King David was homosexual. After a while, i gave up following their line of arguement. It's like contortioning verses to suit their beliefs. But of course the people that subscribe to the other view would vehemently disagree with me. And call me a bigot too.Originally posted by mhcampboy:yes.. but still most of it is just minor details...

I mean they would argue that the bottomline is a relationship with God. Of course i dun agree. But u summed it all pretty well. to each his own. and just agree to disagreeOriginally posted by mhcampboy:so in the end how?
to each his own?
