Burmese Soldiers Accused of Rape in Chin Report By The Irrawaddy March 28, 2007
Burmese army soldiers stripped an ethnic Chin woman and tied her to a cross in one incident among many examples of rape and other sexual violence listed in a report issued by the India-based Women's League of Chinland.
The report documents 38 cases of sexual violence it says were committed with impunity throughout Chin state, mostly during the past five years. Nearly half were gang rapes, and at least a third of them were committed by Burmese army officers, according to the report.
“The soldiers committing rape displayed extreme brutality, sometimes torturing and murdering victims, irrespective of the presence of local witnesses,” the report said. One woman was stripped and tied to a cross, in a savage act of mockery against the local people’s Christian beliefs, it added.
“These troops are using rape as a ‘weapon’ to terrorize local communities,” the report said. “Women and girls as young as 12 are being raped in their homes and farms, while traveling outside their villages and when conscripted as forced labor by the army.”

While there is little we can do directly, the least we can do is to pray for the persecuted Christians there.
