This is a definition of grace.Originally posted by vince69:ok ... my personal understanding.
Grace is unearned, unmerited favor, which means you need not doing anything to qualified to receive it. If you have to do something to earn it, then its not call grace, its called a reward or a salary.

So how is grace manifested in the protestant theology?
hmm .. I think the protestant exposition of grace is much shallower than the Catholic one.Originally posted by vince69:you want my answer?
The Grace of God is manifected in Christ Jesus.
ok loh ... if you says so ... doesn't matter to me I still like to keep it simple.Originally posted by Icemoon:hmm .. I think the protestant exposition of grace is much shallower than the Catholic one.

Can someone explain, from the protestant point of view, how is the grace manifested in the believer's life?Originally posted by M©+square:x2
In the cruxification and the raising from death.
Honestly?Originally posted by Icemoon:Can someone explain, from the protestant point of view, how is the grace manifested in the believer's life?
So far, I don't see how the protestant grace can affect the believer.

Grace does not depend on us. If it depends on us, it's not grace but works.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:There is emphasis on a 'state of grace'. It describes one's communion with God. Committing venial sins will make one drift away from God. Mortal sins cut the communion for good, until the person is penitent and makes sacramental confession.
It is not always possible to determine one's state of grace. However, examining one's conscience is often the best guide.
Yes.Originally posted by The Elder:Grace does not depend on us. If it depends on us, it's not grace but works.
None except on the receiving end. and its not the work of grace, its the gift of Grace from God.Originally posted by Pope Nicholas:The difference in the teaching on grace is simply: what is the role of the Church in the work of grace?
Here's another difference we all can take note of.Originally posted by The Elder:Grace does not depend on us. If it depends on us, it's not grace but works.
ok, like saving grace (gift of salvation) and daily grace (the favor to go through daily living and trails) ...Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:Here's another difference we all can take note of.
Catholic theology makes a distinction between sanctifying grace and actual grace. Sanctifying grace is the supernatural life of the soul. Actual grace is granted to us by God once in a while as an encouragement and aid for us to perservere.
What is Work? We have 2 kinds.Originally posted by The Elder:Grace does not depend on us. If it depends on us, it's not grace but works.
pt. 1, I agree with you.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:I forgot to mention one more thing.
What is Work? We have 2 kinds.
1) A natural moral act without any grace, but that does not help him at all. This 'Work' will not save.
2) A supernatural act that is performed with the help of grace. This saves. Ultimately Grace saves though indirectly through Work.
Actual grace is temporary, and once the job is done God takes it away.Originally posted by vince69:pt. 2, I sort of disagree, always thought Grace is a gift, a favor that we are merited for. If Works is required, won't it have been more appropreiate to call it a reward rather than a gift?
(I am infering the 'Work' you mentioned here is work or good conduct done by man, be it with grace from God.)
cheers.
hmm.... God takes it away? sorry, cannot reconcil this idea that susgest that God is petty, I am more towards the idea that God gave us enough grace (living grace) to get through the situation we are in (ie. specific grace for specific situation). Like the daily provision of Mana when the children of Israel were in the wilderness, its provided fresh on a daily basis.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:Actual grace is temporary, and once the job is done God takes it away.
