Is everything always either/or to you?Originally posted by Icemoon:Better than going to service. Service is passive. You can choose to fall asleep during the sermon. Or let your mind wander off to something else.
well .. service is passive and it is highly likely you will fall asleep if your heart is not in the church. we were talking about going through the motions.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:Is everything always either/or to you?
Or has it occured to you that one really ought to have a comprehensive approach to the issue itself? Is the "service" really that worthless in your opinion? Or is this just another attempt to "deconstruct" tradition?
By God's grace I am as close to God as His Son the Lord Jesus Christ is. He is my head and I am part of His body. Where the Head is, there is His body. I am "IN CHRIST" and you could not get any closer to God than "IN Christ".Originally posted by noahnoah:
How close you are to God?
If you go to the service, God may choose to speak to you through the speaker, some bros and sis in church. A scripture on the wall or the golden verse or the scripture reading of the day may suddenly appear to be speaking to you.... don't know how God can speak to you when you go through the motion in prayer. The muslims just recite the prayers 5 times a day, it is completed as a ritual, probably not the kind of prayer we have, i may be wrong on this.Originally posted by Icemoon:Not surprising.
But if no such "rule" is written down .. most people just slack and eventually they get distanced from God.
Every chance of going through the motion is a chance for you to get closer to God .. agreed?

If one has to go through the motion, better to attend service, better chance of God talking to you. if God talks to you, you will wake up.
God speak to me through His Words and His people, answered prayers tell me that God listen, many blessings I received though I never ask for tell me that God know what is best for me and He care; the winds and the cloud remind me that God exist, el nino and global warming tell me that man are destroying the world that God created. But I never heard Him speaking to me in the wind, or through bright light.Originally posted by NotFromVenus:God speaks to me in the people I meet and the winds that whispers.
I'm serviced because i serve god without pretending to go to a service to receive service or service in a service.

if i belong to Him, He will look for me.
I have been to a point of cursing God (nothing to be proud about), and God in His mercy and grace was faithful to encourage me and to bring me back, and is still currently rebuilding and restoring me with tons of patience.Originally posted by Chin Eng:We are all on a spiritual journey, some of us are closer than God today, while others are further away. Tomorrow, the proximity may change....
The point is, as long as we do not reject God outright, I think we are doing ok.
We should never ever judge another person based on our own relationship with God.

You are not close to God at all but you prefer to wait because God have more patience?? are you waiting for God to make the first move, or you are testing His patience?Originally posted by noahnoah:

Though I may not always [b]FEEL my "IN Christ" position, that does not change the fact that I am IN Him and He is in me.
Col 3:3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God
Christ in you, the hope of glory.
I got to be there by God putting me there when I placed my faith in Christ alone for salvation. I got there when i changed my attitude towards God, sin, self and Christ.
I did not reverence and fear God before, then i changed my attitude towards HIm, He is to be honored as the Moral Governor of the universe. Before I only turned away from sin for fear of hell nothing more nothing less, i want to escape hell so i "turned" away from sin that's all. But i changed my attitude towards sin, Sin is to be shunned and hated because it is a sin against God nothing more nothing less.
Even without hell i will turn away from sin, even without heaven i will turn away from sin because sin in my life will dishonor the Moral Governor of the Universe. I turned away from sin not so that I will be saved, not so that i will go to heaven. NO. Not that.
I realized and changed my attitude that I could not saved myself no matter how hard I tried. So I looked and found the One who could do that for me----Christ the Savior. I relied on Him alone for salvation.
That's how i got to be there.
When that happened there was no rush of the mighty east wind of God, i did not feel a strange feeling in my body, i did not hear a voice booming from heaven telling me so.
NOne of that. I knew that that was what happened through His Word the Bible.

literal meaning would be .... Job ... as in she telling Job to curse God so he (Job) will be struck dead ... or could also say, she telling Job to commit suicideOriginally posted by Icemoon:OT a bit .. when Job's wife said "curse god and die" .. she is telling who to die ah?
