we are not talking about whether the cross is used as fireword or not, but whether such relics have power or not.
Socrates Scholasticus (born c. 380), in his Ecclesiastical History, gives a full description of the discovery [1] that was repeated later by Sozomen and by Theodoret. In it he describes how Saint Helena, Constantine's aged mother, had the temple destroyed and the Sepulchre uncovered, whereupon three crosses and the titulus from Jesus's crucifixion were uncovered as well. In Socrates's version of the story, Macarius had the three crosses placed in turn on a deathly ill woman. This woman recovered at the touch of the third cross, which was taken as a sign that this was the cross of Christ, the new Christian symbol. Socrates also reports that, having also found the nails with which Christ had been fastened to the cross, Helena sent these to Constantinople, where they were incorporated into the emperor's helmet and the bridle of his horse
2 Samuel 6:6-7 NIVIt was God that struck down the priest. The relic didn't do anything.
When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. The LORD's anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down and he died there beside the ark of God.
1) A study in 1870 by Rohault de Fleury , showed only 1/3 of the True Cross is accounted for.Originally posted by Chin Eng:assuming that it's all true...
how much of the original cross is left?
and why was it infused with power?

Merry Meet To All,
Ark of the Covenant is very interesting.
The 2 angels of the Ark of the Covenant are usually Zarall and Jarel, both belonging to the order of Cheribum. So just 2 angels or should be 4 angels?
Blessed Be,
Oceanos
luckily they didn't say its Aaron's staff...Originally posted by Icemoon:not sure whether same as noah's wood.
Actually the staff of Moses, or what remained of it, is now in some museum.
It is black in color.

so, they uncovered the cross when the temple was destoryed?
this account raises serveral question...
1) The Temple is a very sacred place to the Jews, why would the cross of Christ be there?
2) Given the High Priest is the one who wanted to have Jesus Crucified, why would he allow someone to hid the cross (not just one, but also the other 2 as well) at the Temple?
3) Do you know, the Temple was destoryed by fire? the fire was so strong, that the gold items were melded and flows into the gap between the stones, such that the Roman, in order to get to them have to remove all the stones one by one? how do the wooden crosses survived such a fire? granted the mircale of Christ preserve the real cross, but the other two will definitely be destoryed.
4) The cross at that time was like our electric chair or the hangman rope, why would someone want to put it on the crown?
5) Saint Helena, Constantine's aged mother, had the temple destroyed, you meant a saint destoryed the temple of God?
****sorry, the temple part is my inference, cause I can't think of any other temple at the temple mount at that time.

I am good. I see. Well some authorities insisted there are 4 Angels that guard the Ark of the Covenant other than the 2 i mentioned previously.

Like hell you think... So go somewhere well-hidden and mediatate upon your God's Word. Why? Because atheists don't believe in God nor Satan.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:Don't need to. Satan has already won them over.
btw the was, is this Constantine, the Emperor that had the bodies of the Apostles dug out and moved to Constantinople or was it Rome?Originally posted by Pope Nicholas:1)The very first line is my source: Socrates Scholasticus (born c. 380), in his Ecclesiastical History
2,3,5) The temple here is not the Temple of God but a temple of Venus build on top of the site by pagan Emperor Hadrian. So there is nothing wrong wif Saint Helena destroying the pagan temple.
4) Because these are relics of Christ...why wouldnt you want them near you???
I think constantine mother is St Helena. Constantine was the emperor who legalised the Church with the Edict of Milan. Was baptised at his death-bed (norm at that time - smart way actually).Originally posted by vince69:btw the was, is this Constantine, the Emperor that had the bodies of the Apostles dug out and moved to Constantinople or was it Rome?

Consider...
It was God that struck down the priest. The relic didn't do anything.
This is also a warning to those who desire to posess relics for the sake of obtaining God's power unscrupulously. The relics are dead things with no power, but these people will bring the wrath of God down upon their heads for defiling the relic.
Skibi's reasoning maybe sound weird, crude even, but nevertheless is not without reasoning...Originally posted by Icemoon:Skibi .. your reasoning is weird.
Of course the relic didn't do anything. It was violated mah!
The ark of the covenant is not a relic. It certainly has powers as depicted in the battles of Israel against other nations.
Skibi say the Ark got no power....throughout OT we see numerous powers attributed to it.Originally posted by vince69:Skibi's reasoning maybe sound weird, crude even, but nevertheless is not without reasoning...
The Ark really don't have power, its the presence of God that is the power.Originally posted by Pope Nicholas:Skibi say the Ark got no power....throughout OT we see numerous powers attributed to it.
