hah? were you baptised then?Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:No, my friend kept asking me to accept Jesus as my Saviour.
If I don't need saving, I go Mass for what?
That's why should join an order right?Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:In the Catholic Church, most converts are quite enthusiastic. Of course there are always the fallen away ones. Most of the time it's due to loneliness. Many feel quite lonely in the parish, even myself. I can deal with that. But most cannot, so they fall away or end up in other places where they feel more welcome.

What order? A community you mean?Originally posted by Icemoon:That's why should join an order right?
So you can meet people from other parishes.
I am a cradle Catholic.Originally posted by Icemoon:hah? were you baptised then?
opps .. I mean prelature or organization. An order like too extreme.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:What order? A community you mean?
Depends on the parish. Some have groups for the youth, and the adults.
amazing .. why are they asking you to receive salvation then.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:I am a cradle Catholic.
Yes, loneliness is a big discourager, the only way to deal with this is .... try knowing the person sitting beside you. no need to wait for others to make the first move, for all you know, he also new there and also looking for a friend.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:In the Catholic Church, most converts are quite enthusiastic. I tot Chrisitianity is the antidote for loneliness.
my friend's logic was, 'oh your rituals and religious practices won't save you! only Jesus will save you!'Originally posted by Icemoon:amazing .. why are they asking you to receive salvation then.
Prelature also considered extreme la.Originally posted by Icemoon:opps .. I mean prelature or organization. An order like too extreme.

Dunno leh .. 'cos Opus Dei is a prelature but it is not extreme to me at all.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:Prelature also considered extreme la.
At parish level they usually have ministries, bible study groups, neighbourhood groups, basic ecclesial communities.
While Catholics have rituals, practices and "questionable" beliefs, there is no escape from the fact that they are believers of Christ. Catholics also practice baptism in the name of the Trinity and observe the sacraments. And most importantly they follow the same Christology as Protestants.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:my friend's logic was, 'oh your rituals and religious practices won't save you! only Jesus will save you!'
You go attend their services la... then they will also ask you!!!
The parish boundaries exist to allow pastors to maintain jurisdiction over certain areas. It helps with the division of labour I guess. But the parish should be the cornerstone of the Catholic's faith life. Where else is a better place to practise your faith than in your neighbourhood?Originally posted by Icemoon:Dunno leh .. My view is Catholics shouldn't be stuck in their own parish. Be active also in organizations like Legion of Mary and "prelatures" like Opus Dei.
Then maybe the Legion is a poor example.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:The parish boundaries exist to allow pastors to maintain jurisdiction over certain areas. It's good to be able to see things outside the parish once in a while though.
Actually, the Legion works best at the parish level. It was set up in mind to assist the pastor.
No what, we Legion also get to interact with praesidia from other parishes. We are very sociable people.Originally posted by Icemoon:Then maybe the Legion is a poor example.
I go for Opus Dei then.
so the three guys, what do you think we as christians should do to build a strong foundation?Originally posted by breytonhartge:i agree with Icy and MC, no proper foundation and understanding.
CatholicOriginally posted by davidche:so the three guys, what do you think we as christians should do to build a strong foundation?
I assume reading the bible is one. So that when doubts strike you got the weapon at your hand to defend you faith and know which is correct.
Reading the bible alone no use one. If not, why one bible give rise to 36000 denominations?Originally posted by davidche:so the three guys, what do you think we as christians should do to build a strong foundation?
