This kind of thread makes me wonder as Christians are we winning or losing pple for Christ.
Pple are indeed souless nowadays. The "fast food" mentality of pple in society nowadays is moving our faith in the wrong direction. Faith is something that cannot be gained by curing backaches or stiff necks. Even believers like me find it hard to believe in pastors curing a backache or a stiff neck, how do unbelievers view our faith then?
My questions are:
1) Do away with all these mumbo jumbo, will believers still be believers?
2) Do believers have the courage to speak against theology that is unsound?
3) Do believers have the courage to stand firm their ground and not just utter nice sweet things just to attract pple to the faith?
Our faith should never be made into something like a showcase or depend on "miracles". Our faith should never be used for commercial or personal gains.

wad about shou4xing4?Originally posted by davidche:there are two types of people, one is li3xing4, one is gan3xing4
these two groups are all accommodated. But when the two are mixed up together, disputes start.
CHC is more for the emotional minded. A person, scholar for eg, who desires evidences wouldnt like to go to that sort of place. He should go for Stephen Tong's sermons.....just like the TS
They ramble ceaselessly about very ambiguous things regarding God, life, brotherhood and an inherent obligation to atone for our sins which Jesus died for, but when I start to challenge them to a debate on religion, they cannot even answer me

People are getting smarter and better educated.Your kind is losing its ability to spread your poisonous superstitions which shackle the mind and incite the heart towards hatred.

Yes, people may be getting smarter, but society is going downhill. At the same time, we believe we're the best. But what if we aren't? Though scientific theories may lead us to believing that God does not exist, what if they're wrong? What if every theory you believed in was shattered to the ground? Christianity does not believe in hatred. In fact, it believes in the complete opposite -- Love. Sacrificial love, even =). Though some things may not seem possible to us currently, our knowledge is limited, while God is omnipotent, and has a purpose for everyone in this world. Yes, people are getting smarter, scientifically, mathematically, etc. But perhaps, this "smartness" that has developed over time has caused them -- us -- to believe that we are indispensible. That we can handle life on our own. But no amount of knowledge can save us from death. No amount of knowledge can solve this world's problems. No amount of knowledge can give you inner peace. Try what you may, you can't find it.Originally posted by Oriakan:Yes, you are losing people for that guy on the stick

are problems caused by god? since he created this world, it's only logical that he created the problem plaguing the world. maybe that's why solutions can only be found through god. he may be responsible for the mess the world is in now. but still, we have to give him credit for patching up the hole in the ozone layer.Originally posted by da-cheese-freakk:Yes, people may be getting smarter, but society is going downhill. 'Cause it can only be found through God.

Hmph, seems like a restrictive way of looking at it. Put it this way: anything that seems good in times of trouble will be popular. The sheer popularity of certain belief systems cannot be used to be a measure of if they are true or false... that thing is found elsewhere.Originally posted by dakkon_blackblade:After all, Karl Marx did say that religion is the opium of the people. Hence, one would naturally expect religion, such as Christianity, to be more popular in times of trouble rather than prosperity.
Theist would see liberation of the human mind that way. But if you're talking about the whole "sex, drugs, drinks, etc",that's been there even before JC's time.

If they are wrong they'll be replaced by something better. See, unlike dogma which never changes, scientific theories re meant to changed, updated, replaced etc

"When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you may nations...then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy." Deuteronomy 7:1-2, NIV.

So because we cannot explain something,we turn to men in the sky?

I agree with you, none of us are indispensable and that's a good thing.

Yes, we can handle life on our own.Why would anyone want to be saved from natural death? All living creatures must die. Are we any different from other living creatures that the rest of the universe should care for our passing.
That we can handle life on our own. But no amount of knowledge can save us from death.
Problems will always be there but as we acquire more knowledge we are solving some of those problems.
No amount of knowledge can solve this world's problems.
Inner peace is not derived from knowledge, rather it is obtained from being content with oneself and the world around one.It does not require talking to imaginary men in the sky.
No amount of knowledge can give you inner peace. Try what you may, you can't find it.
'Cause it can only be found through God.

This is like damn trueOriginally posted by breytonhartge:in reply to your question, i would venture to say losing... because the church has become too much like the world to attract the world that it has lost its effectiveness.
God did not cause the problems. He made man and gave them free will . That free will was a gift he gave them and humans choose to destroy it by exploiting the world, destroying nature, genocide, warring etc.Originally posted by CyNdI)4.eVa:are problems caused by god? since he created this world, it's only logical that he created the problem plaguing the world. maybe that's why solutions can only be found through god. he may be responsible for the mess the world is in now. but still, we have to give him credit for patching up the hole in the ozone layer.
