correct!Originally posted by Ito_^:if im bitter and full of guilt, i'd want others to treat me badly. so i'll start treating others negatively in hopes they find me repulsive and start hating me.
Isn't this Jesus' Golden Rule?Originally posted by dumbdumb!:Treat others as you would want others to treat you.
A psychologist of sort came to my camp today to give a talk on Neuro Linguistic programming and he asked this question.
most of us agreed that its a good thing, but he said it isn't. its good in a way, but its not the best.
any comments?
Personally I don't go by this. I treat others that way is because that's how I want to treat that person. I find it too much of a hassle anticipating or expecting how people treat me.Originally posted by dumbdumb!:Treat others as you would want others to treat you.

what is the silver rule?Originally posted by Icemoon:Isn't this Jesus' Golden Rule?
I prefer the Silver Rule though.
The commandment is simple yet difficult to obey:Originally posted by -[0]-:Jesus meant that you love others the same way you love yourself.
The keyword here is "love" not "treat". Pls read properly.
hmm, i like being touched. i'm touchy. a pat on the back, a hand shake, a hug..Originally posted by -[0]-:Jesus meant that you love others the same way you love yourself.

How about the people that want to rape little children or kill ?Originally posted by dumbdumb!:hmm, i like being touched. i'm touchy. a pat on the back, a hand shake, a hug..
but not everyone is like that mah.. some are more auditory, some are visual..
So where does this "treat others" come from? Did the psychologist make it up himself? Obviously Jesus never said this phrase as another poster pointed out. If so the psychologist has just pointed out his own flaws. (albeit unintentionally)Originally posted by dumbdumb!:Treat others as you would want others to treat you.

There's a flaw in the argument.Originally posted by dumbdumb!:yeah.. today i was told this thinking is very wrong.
because everyone is different, have different personalities.. the correct way is to treat others the way they want to be treated.
because i might like a certain way ppl treat me. but it doesn't mean everyone likes it too.
Your reply misses the point, obiterdicta.Originally posted by ObiterDicta:Hence, the psychologist, by saying that the Golden Rule is not the best, has committed the error of comparing apples with oranges. The type of interactions that he probably had envisaged is of a different category from that whereby the Golden Rule has its most effective operation.
