religious perspective of masturbation

well,nobody talks abt it openly and nobody wants to admit it but im quite sure many of us do it so this shld be of interest.
according to the old testament masturbation is said to be wrong.
'thou shall not spill thy seed'
see story of Onan (Genesis 38:8-11) .
some people believe that this statement was made with political intent the ancient jews discouraged masturbation so as to ensure that their descendents would be plenty and the faith be passed down.
of course,some choose to interprete this as 'not cumming into a woman is a sin'.
while others may think that masturbation is a sin simply cos it makes pple feel bad .
but isnt the guilt an effect of environmental conditioning?
and then again,masturbation 'harms nobody' so some pple think it is perfectly alright.
BUT shouldnt it occur to us that its not the act itself that is wrong, but the thoughts that go along with it?
and lastly, the impulse is so damn strong, its just unnatural to suppress it.
so what are ur thoughts on this,christian and non christians.

Masturbation is intrinsically immoral because it goes against the procreative nature of marital sexual union. It serves only to satisfy oneself but not the spouse. This is against the spirit of love.
