so what is worship all about? arent we supposed to have fun, enjoy ourselves in the "presence of God" or be happy that he is Great, almighty, as the songs all put it? in this kind of atmosphere, being solemn and serious is a bit hmmm...arent we praising the lord through worship? a solemn affair would deem appropriate but it doesnt mean that the meaning of worship is changed when the atmosphere is changed isnt it?

I agree with your statement. Christianity has no system of penance and karma, which is something alot cannot understand and even many christians cannot accept. It is so simple to accept that Jesus has took upon every sin in the past, present and even in the future?
Man has the sin mentality. With that comes guilt and the need to perform deeds to 'right' yourself. Difficult to accept and comprehend, christians are 100% free.
You must remember suffering, missionary trips and martyrdom are not a necessary part of being a christian. -

does not means we can offend others and just walk away like nothing happen, just that our approach is that we still have a relationship with God, hence the confidence to approach the offended party to make right with them.
(different in term of sequence, make right with God first, then the offended party). -

Ok .. let's not talk about far-fetched examples like martyrdom. How about broken relationship with friends and families? For it is written (in Luke 12):

The original religion in Christianity is Catholicism. The Vatican is Catholic. Worshipping God should be fun? yes why not? but not in the chc sense. Just imagine the pope preaching like pastor kong and his altar boys dancing and singing like pop stars on stage.
I have been to chc three times. What i don't like:
1) people speaking in tongues. speaking in tongue has to be spontaneous and in a language of its own, not everybody reciting thesame and rehearsed "abra-bra-bra-bra".
2) people dressed to "chiong" (dyed hair, fanciful earrings, stunning clothes etc) leading the singing while on stage. these people sing as if they are pop stars, like "we" are the fans cheering their singing ability
3) i remembered a hip-hop dance routine during the interim and i was appalled to see some dancers with tattoos.
Call me a conservative catholic but i will never ever subscribe to chc's way of celebration. I believe that there are many young pple who are going to chc just to make friends with the opposite sex and or prob even to make out. God is just not the main focus for many there. -

Worship and church activities are secondary because I believe one has to worship God in Truth. You may not have the Truth, but always strive towards it. If the attitude is correct, your approximation to it will only get better and better.
PS: voice is used metaphorically. the reason i never use 'word' is because this presupposes there is this body of literature fixed in stone. There isn't. -

God created all forms of music. He gave the abilities to the people who created them.
imo, Hillsongs glorify God with their talents. Glorifying God in worship in no matter what genres is ok.
if Hillsongs arent glorifying God. why is that so that Hillsongs are blessed with increasing attendance? it is a evangelistic church. it is reaching out to people with a message of Christ. and it has done well. -

i rather there be 500 followers who desire the voice of god than 500,000 idiots who only want to learn thru music, celebrate gatherings the "pop" wayb etc.
Religion should be pure, that's why we need leaders who can trod that path. Being a pastor of a church and taking near $10,000 per month, holding other businesses and driving flashy cars, are not my ideas of "pure".
Anyone from Catholic JC here? Who knows how much Bro. P takes a month? I know for sure Catholic priests can only take a few hundred a month to serve basic needs. Salary is not an issue at all for these Fathers, they only want to serve God.
To me, that's what religion shd be. -
