I'm oso curious but have resisted the temptation so far because if the things foretold are good, it's ok, easy to handle but if they r bad, it may cause me paranoia coz there's such a thing as self-fulfilling prophecies which may cause me mental disturbance. Anyway, like they say, your destiny/future lies in your own hands which we r all capable of building or destroying......

Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD..." - Deut 18:9-12
I think we can argue that these are not timeless rules.Originally posted by klydeer:Bible did say....

It depends on whether the "anyone" is timeless or not.Originally posted by M©+square:Are these words(highlighted) not timeless?
Then we have to relook into the bible, which are the things which are DETESTABLE to the LORD.Originally posted by Icemoon:It depends on whether the "anyone" is timeless or not.
come on .. deu and lev also mentions a lot of things Christians never follow .. ahem. I'm sure God uses the same tone when addressing those other issues.
Agree.Originally posted by M©+square:Then we have to relook into the bible, which are the things which are DETESTABLE to the LORD.
And state it out. So that we could see if modern Christianity have indeed followed the ways of God.
We also need to identify the source of those : who practice divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.
Cheers

thanks...i m now clearOriginally posted by pwnz0r:The real truth is the underlying factors that cause you to want to engage in such behaviour.
Why are you curious about what will befall you in the future, be in good or bad? Do you not have the security that the Lord will be with despite storms or good times?
A more dangerous factor is that these fortune tellers are typically subject to one spirit or another. By asking these fortune tellers for help, you are actually paying homage to these spirits.
Another important consideration is that with the Holy Spirit dwelling within you, do you have to seek other lesser spirits, be it evil or benign, for solace?
Prophets not equal to fortune telling...Originally posted by Icemoon:Because if the Hebrews engaged in those activities then .. their prophets will be bo3 seng1 yi4 right?

I can even use the Singapore analogy to argue. The government always use the same old excuses to justify their iron grip rule on the citizens. But as time changes, the people are more matured, in a sense the democracy has matured (unlike Taiwan) to the extent those rules can be relaxed.
Similarly it is important that those rules in Deut were enforced because Deut was during the early years after the commandments were given. The people were not yet matured.
How .. my theory can pass?

For me, would just like to leave you with a verse in Matthew.
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!"' - Matthew 7:21 - 23.
can, just improve on the shop setup, make it more authentic, increase your price by 5folds.Originally posted by Icemoon:This is the wrong understanding. I think you never think enough.
Imagine you sell ramen. You are the only stall around.
Then one day you find a new shop across the street, selling everything from cha kway teow to ba kut teh. Wah leow .. singaporean favourite food!
Do you agree that you will be bo seng yi now? Furthermore you are the stubborn kind, dunno how to adapt, stress on authentic favour but it doesn't appeal to the local taste.
I say bo seng yi .. not close shop.Originally posted by vince69:can, just improve on the shop setup, make it more authentic, increase your price by 5folds.
