Meaning there is a progression of sort, as opposed to those Hindu-related faiths who view time as cyclical.
S.Tong talked about this last time, a few years ago. I think it was at least 5 years ago.
And the genius of Christianity was that the eternal God who is outside time entered into this linear history.
PS: In case atheists shoot me on the "progression of sort", let me say that this is the Judeo-Christian fundamental belief that history and time will reach its climax, when the Messiah will return and God will judge the world blah blah .. -
