It is Ph.D.
Regarding Marcionism .. I'm not really versed in Early Christianities or Proto-Orthodox Christianity (the word is academical, do google for it), other than it was a big threat to the early church. Maybe I read more then we can have some sharing session.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:Indeed, Christianity was quite divided at it's beginning. Maybe the Gnostics are right?
The Orthodox aren't that bad; at least they have sacraments and all..
And, what's your take on Marcionism?
Marcion, insisted that the God of the Old Testament was totally different from the God of the New Testamant. He insisted that there were two Gods! The reason why it was so dangerous was because his organisation was out in the open, and in large scale.Originally posted by Icemoon:Regarding Marcionism .. I think he would have wiped out the Gnostics, they probably have less resources than him..
I never said that they were wiped out. They still exist to this very day.Originally posted by Icemoon:huh .. who wiped out the Gnostics?
Btw, Gnostics also believe in two Gods, just like Marcion.

that's why I said before mah, both side sama samaOriginally posted by Icemoon:You should know mah .. Protestantism is still on the heretics list of the Catholics.
Schismatic is by definition. Some Protestants refuse to accept the Catholic as brethens in Christ, this makes it all the more schismatic. Don't even talk about ecumenism.
Calling people non-christians is worse. It means they are not in Christ.Originally posted by vince69:that's why I said before mah, both side sama sama
Some protestants calls the catholics as non-christians,
the catholics called the protestants heretics.
Were Marcion and the Gnostics rivals?Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:I never said that they were wiped out. They still exist to this very day.
Like you said, politics. Maybe they were rivals.

u think if we announce that, the RC church can expect increase attendence at RCIA?Originally posted by Icemoon:yah lor .. no doubt some Prots a bit surprised that ex-prots do not need to be rebaptised in their new [Catholic] Church.
I think the gnostics were too busy trying to achieve their gnosis .. until too late .. the proto-orthodox Christians were at their throat.Originally posted by ben1xy:from what i can remember, he wasn't actually gnostics but had a tendency to skew towards them bah

the St. Irenaeus one ah?Originally posted by Icemoon:I think the gnostics were too busy trying to achieve their gnosis .. until too late .. the proto-orthodox Christians were at their throat.
The early church fathers were busily writing anti-heretic tracts but inadvertably they defined the Christian doctrines.
You read Against Heresies by one of your church fathers?
Yah.Originally posted by ben1xy:the St. Irenaeus one ah?
He did have a lot in common with them, but I don't think he is one.Originally posted by Icemoon:Wait a minute .. was Marcion himself a Gnostic or not?
