To be perfectly honest, I don't know. The reason being there are so few records that can really be credited to him. According he "organised the Shi Jing (Poems)", wrote reviews for "Yi Jing". But these organisation works don't really show his views. He wrote a history book "Chun Qiu", which is so short that it can simply be organised into an excel table, often, a chapter of this book will consist of 4 words. Subsequently, people tried to expand on the book, but then they became other people's view and not his. The analect (Lun Yu) which supposingly record his conversation with his students were also being "review" and "reorganised" many times over history. Furthermore, during the Sung Dynasty, the official Confucianism school is the "Li Xue" which has a notion that basically say "lets f*** whatever the people were really saying in those classic and lets interpretate it in current context so that it make sense". Hence after all this hassle, I really don't know if there's any Confucius own view left or is most of what we are reading just made up by people after him.Originally posted by Icemoon:Actually his ethical principles are just the conclusion from his reasoning about metaphysics.
It will be interesting if you can share with us what you think of his views on epistemology.
