dat wasn't a doctrine, its the only truth christians know.
where on earth you get that "four noble truths" one?
I was just making a point to keep the discussion relevant to the topic.Originally posted by vince69:Hi,
are you sure these are christian practices?
*edited... actually don't even quite sound like buddhist practices also.

If that's the only truth that christians know wouldn't that make christians terribly singular minded? ie: a kick back into the middle ages? That would totally defeat the point of breaking away from the catholic church...

jesuits believe confucius is a saint meh?Originally posted by wisefool83:I guess to a certain degree yes bah. Depending on which Church you are from really. Some like the Jesuits can even accept Confucius as a Saint. But generally seems like the Abrahamic religions more exclusive or self-righteous, people who don't believe in them are referred to as infidels. And generally they don't practice dual religion, making their religion a zero-sum.
of cuz not. do it again.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:Ito, do you mind???

yup, and anyone else who does not like what they find here, don't let us keep you from doing things more constructive.Originally posted by NT2:ic...then u can go to Buddhism forums...the people there are friendlier to help your know more abt the 4 Noble truths.
with regards to this forums, there is only ONE truth - Jesus Christ.
apologies that we cannot include the other truths.
Ya, they are the ones who came up with the latin word Confucius and Mencius while others like Sun Tzu and Lao Tzu remain in their English translation. The Jesuits went into China quite long ago to preach about Christianity, or rather Catholism and managed to convince one of the Chinese Emperor to baptise.Originally posted by Ito_^:jesuits believe confucius is a saint meh?
hmm, yah but it's the practice that's under question here.Originally posted by :Mebbe. But if u know there'e only one way to God, that's exactly how u will say. rite? Why tell pple that there r other ways when there aren't? Exclusive isn't quite the appropriate word to be employed here as its connotations are stronger than its literal meaning........
Which one?Originally posted by wisefool83:or rather Catholism and managed to convince one of the Chinese Emperor to baptise.
Only the Jesuits, at least a long time ago. But not too sure about now, because the Pope had an issue with it.Originally posted by nomood:er...
you mean there are churches which accepts confucius as a saint??
when you talk about abrahamic religions, are you including islam and judaism as well? judaism is clearly highly exclusive. I personally don't see much differences in islam and christianity...
Ming Emperor, if I'm not wrong, its Tian Qi, the one that's crazy over carpentry. A number of his court officials were baptised and one of them convinced him to baptise too, saying that the Lord will then protect the Ming empire from the Manchu Barbarians. Ok, cannot explore too deep, if not OOT liaozOriginally posted by nomood:Which one?
hmm, just to be a little clearer on what you're saying, when you say that islam accepts all religions that came to be before islam, are you suggesting that islam accepts their teachings?Originally posted by wisefool83:Islam, in its golden age, are more tolerant than the other two religion that you mentioned. They referred to Judaism and Christians as "people in the bible" or something and gave them certain special rights. I was also told by a Umma that Islam accept all religions that came to be before Islam, so include Buddhism and Confucianism and such, but any religion born after Islam is a no no.
u sure they didn't refer em as "wise men"?Originally posted by wisefool83:Ya, they are the ones who came up with the latin word Confucius and Mencius while others like Sun Tzu and Lao Tzu remain in their English translation. ..prohibition of Confucian customs on the part of Chinese Christians, finally resulted in all Christians being banned.
That appeared in the Qing dynasty. Whereelse in the Yuan Dynasty, Marco Polo came by to exchange knowledge and trade. Definitely influx of christian people, and happens to be that Kubilai Khan's wife is a nestorian christian.Originally posted by wisefool83:Ya, they are the ones who came up with the latin word Confucius and Mencius while others like Sun Tzu and Lao Tzu remain in their English translation.
