Scandals in Singapore churches

Got meh? Not many lah...... I mean real scandal, not the sing-song type......
1. Priest who took church money and buy house with god-daughter.
2. Pastor who abandon church/wife to marry Turkish girl
3. ??? cannot think opf any more. -

U mean the scandal is nothing. Can be dismissed? I am utterly upset at how Christians bother about how their church money is being spend and managed. 1 scandal is enough to cause tremendous damage to the christian community. You do not nid to have hundreds or thousands of these. Just like 1 terrorist attack is bad enough to affect Sg economy.

If you are saying that they are problems that Christians ought to deal with then you are quite correct. Frankly sometimes I think more things should be done but it's on the account mainly of the individual Churches. Some are extremely transparent and accountable for where all the expenses go and make sure all the members are informed, for others lets just say that I shall reserve comment but prehaps people should not only give cheerfully, but wisely as well.
If you are saying that such scandals are reason enough to invalidate Christianity and Christians in Singapore (or the world) to give up being a Christian altogether then I'm afraid you are quite mistaken. Such things, while unfortunate are not new problems (it happened even in Acts) and will have to be dealt with. Soldiers do not stop fighting the war simply because their commanders make errors in carrying out the overall plan. -
My church isnt passing around the offering bags anymore during services. Ppl give out of good will by putting in donation boxes. I applaud their faith in God. They still have over a few 100K of donations & tithes per mth! Amazing! Last week, I met a malaysian missionary who lives in a single room flat. He told me that he did not have enough to pay the housing loan at times. In spite of this, he took out $300 to support a christian worker in China who does not have enough to eat........Singapore churches.......what are you doing? Building nice car parks? Amazing.......
I wonder if God is pleased for Singapore Christians to put offerings to build nice buildings when their christian brethen are starving overseas......... -

Every religions have their fair share of scandals. However, we as part of the society and you as part of the church community should not just close 1 eye and hope that someone else will ensure that everything is clean. We must fulfil our duties as part of the community.

All churches have stewards and auditors to count their offering each week. There is always a procedure in which moneys are handled. This really isn't very controversial or difficult to understand.
The difficulty, which is what I think this thread is all about, is the spending of this money.
Church money goes towards the following categories (non-exhaustive list.)
Salaries and wages - for pastors and church admin staff. Depending on church organisations, some has a wage structure because such churches are part of a larger organisation, ie Methodist and Anglican. Others are mega churches that may not need to answer to any higher bodies. This will probably rely on the board of governors to determine.
Administration - the regular bills, electricity, water cleaning etc. Usually taken care by the church building committee.
Missionary - contribution to missionaries and various ministry.
The red-tape in churches can be as bad as any other organisations.
The point is, at the background, there is no greedy individual with a evil laughter in a locked room somewhere in a church glaring a the offering bag each week. Most churches are not run by an individual.
When I said that those who want to find dirt will always find it, I do not mean that Christians are not vigilant when handling our own folks, we are extemely vigilant and I have been in committees that scrutinise an individual's expense voucher.
I meant that for anyone looking for negative aspect on anything that they do not agree on will always find it. So let's all be objective. -
If there is no dirt in the first place, anyone with intentions will never be able to find any dirt. What I worry is, ppl know there is dirt but choose to ignore it until the dirt be exposed and damage the reputation of the church.

Guys, post any scandal u know like pastor fuking church goers, cheat their money, got properties and... Any dirt you can find.

and they will continue rattling, " every1 makes mistakes what, even u also make mistakes" "then what for u wana dig up all those scandals?"
Stop discussing abt this christianity scandals, it'll get u to nowhere. They are all very protective over their same kind even if they know its wrong. save ur brains for a far more objective discussion. -

I never meant ppl can not make mistakes and can not be forgiven. However, these ppl are not ordinary ppl like you or me. They are ppl shouldering great responsibilities and have the trust of a lot of ppl.
Here's an example: If an ordinary citizen like you go Gelyang to spend a night with the china girl, it's no big deal or no one will ever bother. However, if our PM been caught sleeping with a prostitute, it will be a national scandal for sure. The difference is their social status and their responsibility to the number of ppl.
Pastors who commits crimes just misplace the trust their followers place in them and this is no matter that we can just close 1 eye. Remember, they are ppl we look up to, ppl who we supposed them to be morally upright. -
