Your friend must have been from CHC, those over-zealous people who like to put pressure on both christians and non-christians, though i feel 9/10 of them don't know much about their faith and just condemn those who don't go along with them. Its a very wrong approach. I'm sorry your friend had to go through that.Originally posted by subzero_baby:I seldom post replies, but this topic so happen to bite me. Let me say this first: i am not an anti- christ. What happened is that, sometime back, a friend of mine (guy) fell for this girl, who happen to be a non- christian. But she not anti- christ... she infact, encouraged him to continue his faith, go cell group, get involved with the church activities... they were actually doing fine, until guy decided to tell his brothers after cell group. His so-called brothers, would have almost wacked him, they were yelling at him, saying all kinds of stuff: "i am so disappointed in you", "she is not meant to be", "you have changed"... No one in his cell group were happy for him, happy that he found love after being single for so many years. Then the brothers decided to tell their pastor about it, then that very night, he received messages from his churchmates, saying things like "if she's not a christian, then is not wat God has meant for you, meaning, this relationship will not work out". They were telling him to just give it up, dump the girl.
My point is, what ever religion it is, i though we were supposed to be sharing this "love", "care", etc.... so that you can probably impress people well enough to be interested in your religion? How can u spread the teachings by drawing lines, boundaries and controlling your heart?
One of the explanation my christian friend gave was that, you must find someone of the same faith, so you will not sway or drift further from God, so that it is "meant" to be. but if your faith is firm enough, why worry? I have seen how a non- christian was converted into a christian becoz his wife had been patient and prayful.
guy dumped girl, coz cannot take the stress, girl upset, but can understand, but girl has totally changed her perception of christians.... is that what and how it should be? Instead of using this opportunity to let someone get to know this religion better, she was being pushed away. Talking about salvation....
Then, some of the die hard christians, have anti- christ parents at home, dun dare to tell parents that they are christians, so choose to lie, deceit... sometimes even deny. So what happened to the Filia Piety part? the explanation i got is that: you can't choose your parents. Ya, i get that, but u chose to lie, to deceit... that is just as wrong.
someone pls change my perception too, coz being taught in a missionary school for 11years, i am honestly very disappointed in how the message is being spread nowadays....
That's ok. I rather be on the side of thinkers and philosophers like St. Thomas Aquinas, C. S. Lewis, G. K Chesterton, J. R. R. Tolkien, John Henry Newman, Jacques Maritain, Robert P. George, Thomas Howard, Peter Kreeft, and Pope Benedict XVI and be called ignorant.Originally posted by NUS_Superst@r:Hey, next thing u shld ask is do christian realli think or do they just believe every crap in the bible without a doubt. Seem like there are still a lot of ignorant ppl in this modern age. Feel really sad for the pathetic lot.
But that's the fundamental doctrine of Christianity. It's called 'orginal sin', and you don't have to open very far into the pages of the Bible to find that out.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Let God speak to you and realise that humans are flawed.
Tsk tsk, that may constitute an assault.Originally posted by GhostStalker:Next fellow ask me to join their church or what. I going to ask them "Want to go stay in hospital?"
dun open the can of worms leh .. wait he sides with Voltaire, Russell, Marx, Nietzsche etc.Originally posted by ObiterDicta:That's ok. From experience, it tends to be those new age 'charismatic' christian groups who are most zealous in trying to convert people to their faith. Many a times, their intentions are good but the way they do it turns people off. And they have a tendency to play up and segregate 'believers' from 'non-believers' - how 'believers' could be sure of going to heaven and get (material) blessings from God while on earth etc.Originally posted by subzero_baby:... sometime back, a friend of mine (guy) fell for this girl, who happen to be a non- christian. ... u're right. in this forum alone, there's already many who keep telling ppls that once u believe in god, heaven is a guarantee, regardless of the sins they committed. and for the non-believers, no matter how many good deeds they did, the "refuse to believe" in god is the biggest sin that will land them in hell. how much sense does it make? if there's really god, i think he'll think otherwise. or else, he's really not a good god. or maybe it's just another brain-washing method employed by some christiansOriginally posted by kenkaw:From experience, it tends to be those new age 'charismatic' christian groups who are most zealous in trying to convert people to their faith. Fortunately, not all christian denominations are like that. Where I come from, even the term 'non-believer' is seldom used, I would normally hear the term non-Christian instead.
Eh, I cannot agree with you more.Originally posted by skyfoo:dun argue with christians la. their mind not flexible one, cannot think. before anything, the assumptions of god exist and bible is always fucking true are already there.
its the same. most of em, not only charismatic.Originally posted by kenkaw:From experience, it tends to be those new age 'charismatic' christian groups who are most zealous in trying to convert people to their faith. However, according to Jesus, he did not come to condemn, but to save (which you reject), but whoever does not believe is already condemned. The above statement is a contradiction. So like that, who condemn who? Not Jesus but God who condemns those who don't believe?
John Newton wrote the hymn "Amazing Grace" while he was still involved in the slave trade.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:In short, christianity can be defined as a religion of hypocrites.
Does anyone still remember this famous hymn "Amazing Grace"?
Does anyone know who is the composer of the lyrics for that hymn?
He was a infamous slaver captain who had claimed many lives of the slaves he ferried across the ocean. On his dying bed, he wrote the lyrics in repentance. Isn't that being a hypocrite?
Let's look at this philosophically - which one of us is not a hypocrite, one time or another. If being a hypocrite is not practicing what we preach, then we are all guilty of it.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:In short, christianity can be defined as a religion of hypocrites.

Not true, although this is a common misconception.Originally posted by monoslayer:John Newton wrote the hymn "Amazing Grace" while he was still involved in the slave trade.
where got stumbling?Originally posted by karn123:There is one bit about the starter's post I can relate to tho... its when I went to this church last time, you see the 'sisters' in really skimpy clothing...
My question is : isnt that considering 'stumbling' to the brothers if they dress up liddat? It's not like they're going clubbing or something.
Dunno la, I'm sure there're plenty of excuses and reasons ppl here can come up with to defend this, so let's hear it?
