The Catholic Church expects Catholics to contribute during worship, and not to expect to be 'rewarded' with 'high' feelings or any such things. Worship is our proper duty towards the Almighty God, a reflection of our proper position as creatures who owe our salvation and very existence to His infinite mercy.
If we get edified in the process, then that is an additional grace from God.
