Describing himself as a freethinker, he said he had posted a cartoon that depicted Jesus as a zombie biting a boyÂ’s head in January. The following month, he received an online message asking him to remove the image. This fellow also a bit funny type, since he is aware of the previous cases, people talk to him nicely, he still want to go provoke them somemore, so kenna complaint liao.
Char did not reply to the message but chose to irk the person instead. He searched the Internet for more pictures depicting Jesus and published three of them on his blog.
Still the same crime, author or not authorOriginally posted by LazerLordz:This is disturbing, because the pictures were not authored by him. He is merely placing them on his blog.
Issue of religious respect aside, this smells of overzealous application of the Sedition Act.
Because there should be a distinction between hotlinking and actual creation.Originally posted by laurence82:Still the same crime, author or not author
Why is it overzealous application of the Sedition Act?
Even using Riot Act would be excessive, me think.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Because there should be a distinction between hotlinking and actual creation.
The degree of intent may be there, but it's different in the method used..
I just feel such crimes, should be charged under the Riot Act instead. For inciting violence and causing insult.
Sedition is too far-out IMHO.
I think the blogger is inconsiderate and stupid.Originally posted by LazerLordz:This is disturbing, because the pictures were not authored by him. He is merely placing them on his blog.

I wonder.. where do we draw the line then.Originally posted by laoda99:I think the blogger is inconsiderate and stupid.
Pple already complained, but he still put three more pics to irk pple.
i do feel that a refusal to take down the 1st pic is ok. but then to purposely put more.... he's looking for trouble also la.Originally posted by LazerLordz:I wonder.. where do we draw the line then.
Oh well. It depends on the individual, it's usually the extremists who are easily irked and jumpy IMHO. I will just seek forgiveness for his ignorance.
thought the Sedition acts covers the part on causing insult and/or inciting violence? (maybe I am wrong), anyway, the act only provide for the guideline for maximum possible punishment.Originally posted by laurence82:Even using Riot Act would be excessive, me think.
Causing insult, yeap, inciting violence, yeap, but no actual violence..
hmm, what areas do Sedition Act, Religious Harmony Act, Riot Act etc cover?Originally posted by vince69:thought the Sedition acts covers the part on causing insult and/or inciting violence? (maybe I am wrong), anyway, the act only provide for the guideline for maximum possible punishment.
in this case, most like this guy will just get a slap on the wrist type of punishment, not surprise they will just give him a very stern warning and close the case.
I dun think he would ever have apologised if he was not caught.Originally posted by LazerLordz:I wonder.. where do we draw the line then.

It's precisely the point.Originally posted by vince69:thought the Sedition acts covers the part on causing insult and/or inciting violence? (maybe I am wrong), anyway, the act only provide for the guideline for maximum possible punishment.

somehow, I do agree with you, perhaps we ourselves should also learn to take a step back and relax abit.Originally posted by LazerLordz:It's precisely the point.
Sedition sounds close to treason or advocating the destabilisation of a nation-state. It paints him out to be some sort of terrorist, and probably paints the whole issue in a starker contrast of black and white when we certainly do not need this negative press, be it as a nation, or the chap as an individual.
We've got to learn to deal with mosquitoes with comparable weaponry, not with climate change in an analogy so to speak.
Did you have to point that out? Are you so brave?Originally posted by HENG@:Xtians just singularly proved themselves to be as humourless as another religion which went crazy over a dutch cartoon
what can the xtians throw at me? bring sedation act against me lor. i've done riskier things b4 in the name of justice and truth. small thing like that, where got need bravery oneOriginally posted by casino_king:Did you have to point that out? Are you so brave?
Anyway I think they are just promoting stupidity in Singaporeans by enforcing the law in this matter. The should have been a strong debate everytime somebody does this... not censorship and gagging.
and this will be the excuse they will use to say, look, we had a precedent to justify our action.Originally posted by vince69:somehow, I do agree with you, perhaps we ourselves should also learn to take a step back and relax abit.
like I said I personally feel a slap on the wrist or a very stern warning should be enough punishment. on the other hand, the authorities may have problem explaining about their actions taken against the previous 3 bloggers convicted under the Sedition act.
I like your style Last time I said you were very Buddhist; this time I say you are very Christ like... Jesus afterall went to the cross for defiance of the "authorities."Originally posted by HENG@:what can the xtians throw at me? bring sedation act against me lor. i've done riskier things b4 in the name of justice and truth. small thing like that, where got need bravery one
