Testament as a word means agreement or contract. Before Jesus came, during the Old Testament period, God's agreement was that if you did good deeds and obeyed his law, you would prosper. So the Old Testament can be considered a record of that old contract. But the Israelites/Man, could not keep up to their end of that agreement. So God instituted a new agreement via Jesus Christ. The agreement was that Jesus Christ had already done everything perfect in God's sight and taken the sins of the world, the only part man had to do was to believe and repent. The New Testament also can be considered a record of this new agreement.Originally posted by valentinoo:why was there a new testament? the old one was the original one...message from god delivered to jesus....he preached the old testament rite?? this new testament...when does it come? after jesus was crucified or before?

I presume theres nothing theological unsound in the statements above?
The Gospels are part of the NT but not all of it. Other parts of the NT would be the epistles. The epistles were basically letters written to people or churches in different places. Certain churches had problems, for example, the church in Galatia had the problem of legalism. So the Apostle Paul wrote a letter to them addressing that problem and that letter eventually made its way into the NT. Regarding your 2nd question, I have no answer.Originally posted by valentinoo:is da new testament = gospels? i have read that gospels were written down 40 yrs or so..after jesus...it was initilally transmitted by words of mouth...during that time..many human errors cud have entered da transmission.. so how u know dat its authentic?
Why are you so hung up on this? Use your own brains. You want God to live your life for you? God gave you a brain for what? To ask stupid questions?Originally posted by valentinoo:neone else know ?
the authenticity of the new testament/ gospels...since its only created after jesus is gone...that too da copy was written in greek...and not the language jesus spoke
im asking coz if u want to follow a religion...u must know WHAT u r following..u just dont follow something coz everyone is following it...hence im using my brain to ask question...Originally posted by casino_king:Why are you so hung up on this? The whole point is not to know more and more about the religion. The whole point is not to find out more and more about God. Whatever for? You have a brian. You have education. Think for yourself. God give you brain for what? Give you a brain and then live your life for you? Better take away the brain then.Originally posted by valentinoo:im asking coz if u want to follow a religion...u must know WHAT u r following..u just dont follow something coz everyone is following it...hence im using my brain to ask question...
u r following christiniaty..so i assume u know what u r following...thats why im asking u such question coz i wanna know...im curious...

yes i agree...eventually its bout getting to know god...but the books we have now..eg bible..is what we take as a guidance, therefore its important to know what book u r following...yes god give u brain..to think...but they r plenty who doesnt...they merely follow books which r made by fellow humans...and instead of getting to know god, the creator..they follow something else...Originally posted by casino_king:The whole point is not to know more and more about the religion. People come into a religion to get a relationship with God. To become God's children, to become God's wife, to become God's pets, to become God's mistress, to become God's lover, to become God's beloved. To have a relationship with God. Not to find out more and more about other people's relationship with God by reading the new testament and the old testament and learn from this preacher and that preacher.
I advise you to get to know God like these Muslims: engage in the pursuit of a direct perception of spiritual truth or God, through mystic practices based on divine love CLICK HERE
Instead of always trying to find out what other people's experiences with God is like and what God told those people. What God wants for you in your own life is definitely not the same as what God wants for the lives of those people.
agree... once you know God, you get your directions from God for your own life. It is an experience that cannot be compared. Nothing like reading from "holy books."Originally posted by valentinoo:yes i agree...eventually its bout getting to know god...but the books we have now..eg bible..is what we take as a guidance, therefore its important to know what book u r following...yes god give u brain..to think...but they r plenty who doesnt...they merely follow books which r made by fellow humans...and instead of getting to know god, the creator..they follow something else...

You can go anywhere, talk to anybody, be friends with anybody, all the while knowing that God is with you.
