May I know what is cell group for Christians? What is the purpose of having a cell group? Roughly how many people are in 1 cell group? How are they allocated to each cell group? Also what does group members do during cell group meeting?

The concept of cell groups is based on the practices of the believers in Acts of Apostles where Christians met in homes. Perhaps the purpose is to have small groups of Christians to gather in fellowship and worship to encourage each other to progress on in their Christian life. I am not exactly sure how it originated in Singapore but I believe it has got to do with Faith Community Baptist Church (FCBC) Pastor Lawrence Khong and Rev Ralph Neighbour who started aggressively to have their church members broken down into cells.Originally posted by toll123:May I know what is cell group for Christians? My personal thoughts: In itself Cell Groups is a group programme where small groups can be more intimate in sharing. In a home environment people can be less guarded and more teachings can be given. The problem of CG starts when a church takes a stand that it is a Biblical concept that ALL Christian should follow and ignore the play of group dynamics and human emotions. Also some cells fail because the church place unrealistic objectives and pressure the members to grow. Members, especially the leaders are now pushed to the limits to perform otherwise they seen to be "cancerous". -
for my church, it is a bible study group. we are not allocated to the cell group, just tell the elder that we are interested and he let us join. -
Cell group allocation is based on your district. So if you stay in the east, you belong to a cell group in the east. A cell group is the smallest unit in a big church (unless they have buddy system? lol). During cell group meetings, they conduct bible study sessions and worship. Worship as in singing songs accompanied by the guitar. On top of that, they could be having birthday celebration for the members or personal admin, like submitting forms or promoting church events.
Note that a church member can hold multiple roles in a big church. You belong to a cell group and you are encouraged to join a ministry. You could be an usher, a performer, an in-charge for small kids etc. for the latter.
A cell group is practical for big churches also, in the sense there is coordination to chop [good] seats during the service. -
FCBC has a single sex cell group right i heard from someone there? That is all male or all female to prevent distraction.
