It was in fulfillment of the prophecy:
Isa 53:7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, [b]Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.

You are referring to this verse:Originally posted by plo30360:But Jesus answered Pilate's earlier questions. Why did He not answer when asked what is "truth"?
And that verse of Isa, does it not refer to something else, like when he was mocked and scourgaed by the Roman soldiers?
it will be a puzzler here on earth for the Bible never tells us why?Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:Why was Jesus scratching on the ground when they brought the woman to Him to ask if they could stone her?
I'm sure He had He's reasons.
plo is catholic?Yes, I'm.
Ok, maybe this is something we'r gonna have to concede as a 'mystery of faith'
Why was Jesus scratching on the ground when they brought the woman to Him to ask if they could stone her?
I'm sure He had He's reasons.
You are referring to this verse:
John 18:38 Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, "I find no fault in Him at all"
i don't have any idea why he did not answer. Maybe it was because Pilate did not want to know the anwer. Christ Knew it. Can you get the feeling of it reading the verse?
"What is truth? " And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, "I find no fault in Him
"And when he had said this [question], he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, "I find no fault in Him at all."
observe how did John interpreted Pilates question. "And when he has SAID this....."
It seemed like it was not a question on Pilate's part it was more like a statement.
Actually the Truth was standing before him.
My two cents Very Happy
I sort of see what your trying to say:
So by not anwering pilate, Jesus is doing him a great favour
I think just a sarcastic remark, seeing Jesus cannot (it seems) even help Himself.Originally posted by plo30360:There's a question, I've been curious about for sometime:
When Pilate asked Jesus what is "truth"? Why didn't Jesus reply?
I mean in Scripture its states Him saying "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life"
Why didn't Jesus say "I'm truth" or something like that in response to Pilate's question?
Thank you

I think Pastor Prince hypothesized .. Jesus was scribbling the 10 commandments to shame the pharisees.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:Why was Jesus scratching on the ground when they brought the woman to Him to ask if they could stone her?

Prob Pilate thot Jesus was a mad man or political opponent of the Jews & a scape goat by the Jews playing politics, trumping up a false charge against an innocent man bcos of political reasons. JMHO.
John 18: 37-40 (NIV)
"You are a king, then!" said Pilate.
Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."
[b]"What is truth?" Pilate asked. With this he went out again to the Jews and said, "I find no basis for a charge against him. But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release 'the king of the Jews'?"
They shouted back, "No, not him! Give us Barabbas!" Now Barabbas had taken part in a rebellion."

Seems to me, that immediately ("with this") after Pilate ask the question or is it a question ? as suggested by Ironside, he turned his attention to the Jews. I chose to read that Jesus did not have a chance to explain to Pilate on "what is the truth" if that is really a question Pilate has.
Poignantly reflective of the Roman Empire then and of the world today.
