I'd read the history that the first Church was formed in Rome and gained Rome of king,Constantine's support...perhaps i 've forgotten....Originally posted by Icemoon:I don't think Rome specifically formed any churches, but Constantine's support certainly strengthened the church.
constantine is a saint highly revered in the eastern orthodox church , not roman catholic lehOriginally posted by Icemoon:?
shifted his capital .. erm so?
The first church certainly wasn't formed in Rome. The earliest church was run by the Jerusalem Council of apostles, call it the Jerusalem Church.Originally posted by Owl^:I'd read the history that the first Church was formed in Rome and gained Rome of king,Constantine's support...perhaps i 've forgotten....
I'm refering to both Churches of Catholic and Christian, not jews laOriginally posted by Icemoon:The first church certainly wasn't formed in Rome. The earliest church was run by the Jerusalem Council of apostles, call it the Jerusalem Church.
I don't think it is correct to label the early church the Church of the Jews. Like the apostle Paul said, you shouldn't let the Jewish practices stumble your faith. I don't think it is nice to deny the apostles their christian heritage.Originally posted by Owl^:I'm refering to both Churches of Catholic and Christian, not jews la
Of cos..Jews church was formed in Jerusalem...

In fact, I suspect the church in Rome started later, after the churches in Alexandra and Antioch were established. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Furthermore, in the beginning, the church in Rome was not as important as the ones in Alexandra and Antioch.
I think it is logical also. Most Roman rulers before Constantine were unfriendly to Christians. You think the church in Rome would have an easy life? How can it thrive under the foot of the emperor?

u sure?Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:The first Christian Church to be founded was the Catholic Church. Back then, there was only one Church.
Today the Christian 'Church', or Churches have disintergrated into several hundred different ones. But the Catholic Church remains as Christ's original deposit of faith , undeterred by evil forces, whether earthly or unearthly.
a 'Catholic Church' with Peter *not* as the leader.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:The first Christian Church to be founded was the Catholic Church. Back then, there was only one Church.
The disintegration already happened during the Roman Empire, way before the schism.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:Today the Christian 'Church', or Churches have disintergrated into several hundred different ones. Can you claim that your church came first?Originally posted by laoda99:u sure?
No doubt that politics was aplenty..Originally posted by Icemoon:The disintegration already happened during the Roman Empire, way before the schism.
It is typical PAP politics - the 'opposition' were troublemakers and the Church had to 'fix' them. And today, the RC still happily proclaim the Catholic Church had the mandate from the very beginning.
no!Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:No doubt that politics was aplenty..
But do you see anyone else claiming this mandate?
He can't.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:Can you claim that your church came first?
If the Apostles were the princes of the Catholic Church, and Peter their leader...Originally posted by Icemoon:a 'Catholic Church' with Peter *not* as the leader.
Well done!
In the Gospels, the Apostles were not called Christians. So are they Christians or Jews?Originally posted by vince69:Just a bit on History
The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch (Acts 11:26)
The first mention of Church is in Acts 5 (the story of Ananias and Sapphira) and that's in Jerusalem. (this is after the resurrection, the other 2 is by Jesus in Matt 16, 18 )
