I feel that homosexuality is a mental illness & should be classifed as such. Long time ago, it was classified as one but i don't know when for whatever reason it became an alternative lifestyle.
Why? Bcos if one has a normal sexual organ, & one acts like a homosexual, there must be something wrong in their brains not their bodies. I am not talking abt those who have two organs or no organ or born with defective organs etc. These i can understand that it cant be helped for them. But i am talking abt normal people with normal organs. Why would anyone want to indulge in homosexuality unless he is a bit off in his head?
I have come across news of ppl who are homosexuals bcos of certain abuse done to them or some dysfunctional family relationships or grown up being called a sissy in school etc. They were normal in the first place but bcos of these abuses they became abnormal. These are all in the mind. They need therapy, counselling, prayer, family support, medicine etc. It's like a sexually abused young girl or boy who needs treatment or they will become mad or abnormal later in life.

What people do with their lives as long as it does not affect anyone. I don't see the buddhists condemning beef eaters...why? because each person has a freedom of choice to chose even though it might seem to another a wrong path. -

therefore it is not a mental illness.
it has been proven that its actually in the genes (for guys)
and for girls, it can be also in the genes, but usually, its after they meet another girl that they become lesbian. this is because girls are more emotional and therefore are emotionally attached to the other girl blah blah blah...
so yeah, its not a mental illness.

of course, this whole nature VS nurture argument can go on literally FOREVER, but for now, this is the latest thing that i have read on this subject. -

As society opens up, what is deemed as an illness in the past is a lifestyle now.
Before the invention of computers, we had to manually write everything. Now, if someone is to do the same thing, we would call him ancient (of course there are exceptions where things are better kept on papers than on computers for security sake). -

lets say someone has the gene(s) that causes depression. they usuallyare not born depressed. but something happened and therefore they are depressed. however, it could be something small that triggers it. because they have the genes, they fall into depression more easily than people who do not have the genes.
and of course, i did mention the whole nature VS nurture thing.
there are theories that it is caused by genetics.
there are also theories that genetics have absolutely nothing to do with this.
and also, nature and nurture are very often inter-linked.

have you any idea how many people ATTEMPT suicide? and how many deaths are actually suicides but are labelled as other stuff?

i think psychology should be a compulsory subject in singapore where the number of suicides and mental illnesses are increasing at such a rate.
and i think that woodbridge isnt helping at all. people who are in there are labelled as mad crazy dangerous people. they are not. they are psychologically disturbed/mentally imbalanced people who just need help.

there are certain critiria that have to be met before something can be labelled as a mental illness. at least i think so. there has to be a reason as to why homosexuality is no longer labelled as a mental disorder, while others like depression and such still are. of course, to elaborate on this, it could take hours. and so i will leave it as such.
and you know what, it IS fashionable to be depressed and suicidal and anorexic/bulimic now!! dont you know that there are TONS of teens around the world who are into this 'pro-ana/pro-mia/pro-SI' thing? sadly, these will NEVER be accepted as lifestyles.

You see! All the rubbish coming in & spreading around the world. Thank God they will NEVER be accepted as lifestyles. Yes, i have heard of the proana etc websites. They are causing havoc to young people & destroying lives. Many have even died bcos of this. Funny why homosexuality is not labelled deviant like it used to be. Yes, i guessed correctly. U are not a local. I agree that the people here are viewing woodbridge in a twisted & wrong way. There is self denial. People are still ignorant & superstitious regarding mental illness. I pray this will change. Maybe start something like the yellow ribbon program for ex prisoners for mental pats to rehabilitate them & integrate them back into society.

first, i have NO RELIGION! i was atheistic. but now im somewhere closer to agnostic...

honestly, i know nothing about religion.
but i do read articles and stuff on abnormal psychology. stuff from around the world and not singapore (because i cant seem to find very many suitable abnomal psych related things from singapore).
