You don't have anything fresh to contribute? he without sin cast the first stone.Originally posted by Repented John 2:I feel that homosexuality is a mental illness & should be classifed as such. Long time ago, it was classified as one but i don't know when for whatever reason it became an alternative lifestyle.
Why? Bcos if one has a normal sexual organ, & one acts like a homosexual, there must be something wrong in their brains not their bodies. I am not talking abt those who have two organs or no organ or born with defective organs etc. These i can understand that it cant be helped for them. But i am talking abt normal people with normal organs. Why would anyone want to indulge in homosexuality unless he is a bit off in his head?
I have come across news of ppl who are homosexuals bcos of certain abuse done to them or some dysfunctional family relationships or grown up being called a sissy in school etc. They were normal in the first place but bcos of these abuses they became abnormal. These are all in the mind. They need therapy, counselling, prayer, family support, medicine etc. It's like a sexually abused young girl or boy who needs treatment or they will become mad or abnormal later in life.

It's not mutation of genes. I have a friend who used to go out with girls, but after he joined drama and dance class in secondary, he turned gay.Originally posted by udontknowme:psychologists do not agree.
therefore it is not a mental illness.
it has been proven that its actually in the genes (for guys)
and for girls, it can be also in the genes, but usually, its after they meet another girl that they become lesbian. this is because girls are more emotional and therefore are emotionally attached to the other girl blah blah blah...
so yeah, its not a mental illness.
more if a...lets call it a mutation of the genes.
of course, this whole nature VS nurture argument can go on literally FOREVER, but for now, this is the latest thing that i have read on this subject.
What are u implying? I am mad or what?Originally posted by some_moron:Is that what happened to you John?
I have to hammer in the idea that homosexuality is abnormal & wrong even if it's not sinful.Originally posted by Chin Eng:You don't have anything fresh to contribute? You've done this homosexual topic too often already lah.... and said what you have to say.... so please move on.
Buddhism has silly rules like not eating beef. What has not eating beef got to do with salvation of one's soul? Just bcos cows are sacred to the buddhists due to cultural context so cannot eat them?Originally posted by fymk:he without sin cast the first stone.
What people do with their lives as long as it does not affect anyone. I don't see the buddhists condemning beef eaters...why? because each person has a freedom of choice to chose even though it might seem to another a wrong path.
when you have the genes, doesnt mean that you will immediately be gay and everything. usually, there has to be something to trigger it.Originally posted by leddy:It's not mutation of genes. I also know there are gays who changed straight again.
Being gay is a lifestyle choice.
So one day it's natural to commit sucide bcos one is severely depressed? Or it's a natural lifestyle for one to be anorexic or obsessive or bipolar or schizophrenic etc? So we let all these ppl out of woodbridge bcos it's accepted lifestyle? NO. They need treatment whether medical, spiritual or psychological etc.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:One man's meat maybe another man's poison. You don't agree with it, it's not a surprise. All of us are humans, we can think, so we have a tendency to disagree.
As society opens up, what is deemed as an illness in the past is a lifestyle now.
Before the invention of computers, we had to manually write everything. Now, if someone is to do the same thing, we would call him ancient (of course there are exceptions where things are better kept on papers than on computers for security sake).
all the examples you have listed above ARE mental illnesses and are recognized by doctors as such.Originally posted by Repented John 2:So one day it's natural to commit sucide bcos one is severely depressed? in other words, the examples are in the DSM and homosexuality is not?Originally posted by udontknowme:all the examples you have listed above ARE mental illnesses and are recognized by doctors as such.
homosexuality however, is not.
Hello udontknowme. I dont know who u are bcos your nick says so. But as i said i think it was labelled a mental illness some time ago until they accepted it as a lifestyle.Originally posted by udontknowme:all the examples you have listed above ARE mental illnesses and are recognized by doctors as such.

and i have to say that yes, it is kinda 'natural' to commit suicide because one is severely depressed.
have you any idea how many people ATTEMPT suicide? and how many deaths are actually suicides but are labelled as other stuff?
as for anorexia...i think i will have a thread for that myself...
i think psychology should be a compulsory subject in singapore where the number of suicides and mental illnesses are increasing at such a rate.
and i think that woodbridge isnt helping at all. people who are in there are labelled as mad crazy dangerous people. they are not. they are psychologically disturbed/mentally imbalanced people who just need help.
who the hell started labelling woodbridge as a mad-house?
heh hello...Originally posted by Repented John 2:Hello udontknowme. I dont know who u are bcos your nick says so. But as i said i think it was labelled a mental illness some time ago until they accepted it as a lifestyle.
So as u yourself said, maybe the mental illnesses i quoted will be accepted as lifestyles also like homosexuality. So we will see it's fashionable to attempt or commit suicide, people starving themselves due to anorexia in multitudes, schizophrenics running around shouting loudly in groups etc.
I agree psychology should be taught but more imptly Christ's gospel should be spread. I also agree ppl who have gone to woodbridge are not mad crazy dangerous ppl but society already cast them off as outcasts or lunatics. Woodbridge is so famous as a mad house. Are u a born Singaporean? How come u don't know?
i think it would be better is you could point out what was wrong...thanksOriginally posted by casino_king:Please don't parade your fantasies as truth and imagination as evidence crap all over the place. If you are not a qualified Psychiatrist plase just shut the fcuk up.
Only a qualified Psychiatrist would be able to judge what is or what is not a "mental" illness... one cannot just read some stuff from somewhere and then make claims and assertions... the problem with religious people is that they sometimes "cross" the line and just because they indulge in superstitions in their religious beliefs and in their churches and temples and mosques; they then think that they can go out into the real world (like this forum) and make claims based on superstitions.Originally posted by udontknowme:i think it would be better is you could point out what was wrong...thanks

there are certain critiria that have to be met before something can be labelled as a mental illness. at least i think so. there has to be a reason as to why homosexuality is no longer labelled as a mental disorder, while others like depression and such still are. of course, to elaborate on this, it could take hours. and so i will leave it as such.
Ok let's leave it. I think it will take hrs also. But i have my reasons as to why it's a mental illness.
and you know what, it IS fashionable to be depressed and suicidal and anorexic/bulimic now!! dont you know that there are TONS of teens around the world who are into this 'pro-ana/pro-mia/pro-SI' thing? sadly, these will NEVER be accepted as lifestyles.
You see! All the rubbish coming in & spreading around the world. Thank God they will NEVER be accepted as lifestyles. Yes, i have heard of the proana etc websites. They are causing havoc to young people & destroying lives. Many have even died bcos of this. Funny why homosexuality is not labelled deviant like it used to be. What is the secret agenda behind this last days homosexual movement? I can only guess but all i know it's coming to an end. Jesus is coming soon, very very soon.
and no, im not a singaporean. i just live here. though why they have to label it as a mad-house, i cannot understand. it is because of this that people in singapore view people with mental illnesses in such a twisted and WRONG way.
Yes, i guessed correctly. U are not a local. I agree that the people here are viewing woodbridge in a twisted & wrong way. There is self denial. People are still ignorant & superstitious regarding mental illness. I pray this will change. Maybe start something like the yellow ribbon program for ex prisoners for mental pats to rehabilitate them & integrate them back into society.
there is, and i believe will always be conflict between science/psychology and religion. and also nature VS nurture...
Well one day this supposed conflict is going to end with Christ's second advent. Then we see who is right.

WOAH!!!
first, i have NO RELIGION! i was atheistic. but now im somewhere closer to agnostic...
and i did not say what are makes something a mental illness and what does not. i said "there are certain critiria that have to be met before something can be labelled as a mental illness. at least i think so."
honestly, i know nothing about religion.
but i do read articles and stuff on abnormal psychology. stuff from around the world and not singapore (because i cant seem to find very many suitable abnomal psych related things from singapore).
whether or not those articles and stuff are acurate are another thing...
i do agree that "Only a qualified Psychiatrist would be able to judge what is or what is not a "mental" illness"...
