Some start with 'Father God', to some others its just 'God'... there are also some who start like this 'Our Father in heaven'....etc...Originally posted by motd:When you pray to God, you probably start it like this:
"Dear God", and end the prayer with "In Jesus' name, Amen."
1) Now, when you say "Dear God", are you referring to God the Father?
2) Why does one need to say "Amen"?
Before we pray, God already knows our heart, and what we pray for. I believe there is no need to over-detail, because we're talking to Someone who already knows what we want to pray for.Originally posted by vince69:Some start with 'Father God', to some others its just 'God'... there are also some who start like this 'Our Father in heaven'....etc...

So "God" refers to God the Father.

as for Amen, the orginal meaning is reliable, sure, true...
why put it there at the end of the prayer? cause Jesus put it there when he teach his disciples how to pray mah... (other reason to put it there as a declaration of faith, meaning God will surely hear the prayer as it is prayed in Jesus' name)
Since we are in this subject, let me thow some thoughts in, when Praying, do you pray in detail? or Pray in general? any difference between the two (like which one do you think is more effective)?
Cause I had heard people saying, prayer must be very specific and detail then can be accurate...but others says that being too specific/detail restricts God who knows better then us what we really want/need.
1) "Dear God" can refer to as the Holy Trinity (God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit).Originally posted by motd:When you pray to God, you probably start it like this:

whilst it is all good that we are "brainwashed" into taking God casually and like a friend, we must remember that He is the LORD of the universe and that HE IS GOD. He is our father and we must be aware of this and we must not take this previlage of being able to come into the holy of holies lightly. We must offer God the appropriate reverence and respect, even when Jesus prayed to the Father, He did so, with respect and reverence. Remembering our position.Originally posted by photo_seeker:For me, when I pray, I take it as speaking to God and thus speak casually.
You're head on. I didn't type so in specific. Thanks for clearing the air, in case I've confused someone out there.Originally posted by breytonhartge:whilst it is all good that we are "brainwashed" into taking God casually and like a friend, we must remember that He is the LORD of the universe and that HE IS GOD. One does not talk to ones father casually, but with respect.
