As EH is a Christian Forum, just thought maybe we can have a thread dedicated to the person central to our belief, Jesus Christ
Just who is Jesus Christ.
The Bible talks of Jesus as The Word made flesh (John 1:1, 1:14), born of a Virgin (Matt 1:23), go about healing the sick and setting the captives free(matt 11:5), is without sin and died on the cross for our sins that our sins are being paid for(1Peter2:21-25), and having done all these, had rosed from the dead() and is now at the right hand of God(Acts 7:55-56).That everyone who received him will be saved(Roman10:8-9).

Imagine two imaginary columns in your mind.
On the left column write there Jesus Christ on top.
On the right column write there things and persons that you love.
Then ask yourself.
Where does my heart beat faster?

I heard the call to give up all and follow Christ into the slums to serve Him among the poorest of the poor. It was an order.
I was to leave the convent and help the poor while living among them. jesus is full of grace, compassion and love, our only hope

Can anyone of you explain to me the benefits of believing in fantasy characters and stories like it is for real? I am sure that there must be benefits in believing in fiction but then I see the downside - like the cartoon protests.

To a Christian, God and Jesus and The Holy Spirit are certainly not fiction. They are very real. Maybe you want to rethink your delivery, it may start a flame war which we here in EH do not want. There is no evidence of God and the Holy Spirit. There might be some evidence that a man named Jesus once existed on earth but there is certainly no evidence that he ressurected and that he is still alive.
If God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit is in existence; why go into hiding and not just appear and demand that all man worship him/them? -

Anyone want to discuss whether a belief is real or not should take time to read articles on the issue - science vs religion, the word religion here is used out of convention for the purpose of the discussion
i read a few recently, like God and Science, from Lance Morrow, Defenders of the Faith, Roger Rosenblatt, The Need for New Myths, Gerald Clarke
The thing is, beliefs or faiths cannot be wholly explained through scientific, logical reasoning. After some time in the discussion, the believers will be left dry. People will be, like casino king, asking for proof of Jesus' dying on the cross for u or whether the scriptures fully record what Buddha had said ages ago. This is difficult to prove.
Similarly, science are not without loopholes and mistakes. After leading people through Industrial Revolution and the Age of Enlightenment, science was in the essence, the 'god' of our days...well, until the proof of Big Bang brought fresh look at creationism...
I dont know, but wanting proof from faiths is like asking a chicken and eggs question. -
That is why, the Gospel which consisted of book of Luke , book of John, book of Mark and book of Matthew. All these 4 books' messages are consistent. For eg, How Jesus heal lepors and cast out demon from the possessed. sometime did u ponder why we christians believe it? because before i converted , i always did. It is not a blind faith i can tell u that.
Jesus did not perform any miracles in Nazareth (His hometown) because no one believes in him so He refused to do any but blessed are to those who havent witnessed yet believed in Him. cheers , am i clear? What an irony , how people believe gossips in the magazine but doubt the teaching in the bible..

Thanx Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit for everything ! i want to thank You for every meals, blessing me with an excellent family , blessing with many friends, blessing my life with everything that i needed, sending Jesus down to earth and to live among the commoners to cleanse for my sin . I'll to pray for my parents accepntance of my faith and i believe one day, they will come into Christ too(i have faith in ur Father)! I'll like to pray for every evangelist and all my friends too !

That is why I am asking a very simple question; what does believing in fantasy do for you believers? I am not asking you to give up your imaginary friends but am just simply asking what good it does. People of some faith are willing to die for their imaginary friends and have bloody protests to defend their fiction writers. Is your mind already set when you say its a 'fantasy', the people who wrote the scriptures are 'fiction writers', and the beings named are 'imaginary friends'?

You can put Christianity under trial. we have the written records of the gospels, the witnesses' affidavits.
what do you know.........what they're saying might be true. And you have missed the greatest ride in history.
Prove it wrong and fictitious first before you gave your verdict on it. And when you have proven it wrong, come back to us and tell us.

The accounts of Jesus birth, the Christmas story is based on something fantastic. A virgin birth. In ancient times before people understand reproductive science it does not seem incredible but with today's knowledge we know for a fact that it is an impossibility, fiction.
The accounts of the Christmas story is different in the GMatthew and GLuke. Since you are a christian, can you tell me what the differences are and how you account for the differences.
Even without having to refer to these so called affidavits; the whole christian faith rests on the premise that there is a God; no proof is forthcoming for the existence of God. No answer is forthcoming as to why a Good God should chose to hide and why a Good God would allow evil and suffering. -
The thing which you need to understand is this: Jesus has never asked anyone to worshipped him. He came down because he loves us. He wanted to teach us how to love and how to be good. The best proof of the evidence of Jesus lies in your intuition. Use your intition as a guide. Read the teachings of Jesus and see if you can find truth in it. Its a rather personal thing.
