LIVING WATERS – 30TH ANNIVERSARY (1976-2006)Living Waters, a youth group of St Anthony's will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary of its establishments. Here is our past history of our group:
Year 1976:17/4/1976 – The formation of Living Waters by Cheng Chi School at Stephen Lee Rd. Initially, there were 50 members joining the group since the announcement of the new group was announced somewhere in March 1976, telling people that the group will be going to be introduced soon. Meetings were conducted in Chinese dialects like Teochew & Hokkien and the person in charge with the group then has STRICT rules.
13/6/1976 – Living Waters was chosen to help out during the St Anthony's Feast Day, together with Cornerstone.
18/9/1976 – Meetings were conducted at 1.00pm, instead of 12.00pm due to certain feedbacks from youths.
18/12/1976 – Youth Advent Vigil. About 14 of them attended.
End 1976 – Number of members: 62
Year 1977:30/1/1977 – 12 of the members were selected to teach Cathecism Classes in Teochew.
13/2/1977 – First Trip for Living Waters: Visit to Gay World Park.
15/3/1977 – Mission Trip to Batam, 7 of them participated.
16/7/1977 – Living Waters commerated its 100th member of the group.
23/10/1977 – 1st Walkathon along Mandai Rd. (Its routing from Stephen Lee Rd
Woodlands Rd (os Metal Box Factory)
and back to church.)
End 1977 – Number of members: 108
Year 1978:18/2/1978 – New timeslot for meetings on Saturday, 3pm & 5.30pm
20/5/1978 – Polling begins for Living Waters, whether it will become a church youth group or not. It lasts for 1 month.
1/7/1978 – Living Waters finally became a church youth group, with late Fr Cyprien Huc as the person-in-charge.
16/12/1978 – Outing at Orchard Road.
End 1978 – Number of members: 140
Year 1979:19/5/1979 – 1st Youth Retreat. 37 of them participated in this event.
28/10/1979 – Recruitment Exercise for existing students at Cheng Chi School & parishers of St Anthony's Church.
10/12/1979 – Youth Camp at Kuantan. Only 6 of them took part.
End 1979 – Number of members: 168
Year 1980:8/3/1980 – As there are too many members, the group in charge had decided to transfer some of its existing member to different parishes and set up another group there.
16/8/1980 – Living Waters fund set up.
29/11/1980 – North District Camp at East Coast Park. Poor response at that time.
End 1980 – Number of members: 186
Year 1981:18/4/1981 – Celebration of Living Waters 5th Anniversary.
11/10/1981 – 1st Private retreat. Selected members only.
12/12/1981 – Youth Advent Vigil. It has a bit of good response, compared to the last 4 years.
End 1981 – Number of members: 203
Year 1982:20/2/1982 – Dinner & Dance at Gay World Park, response was not good at that time because it was too expensive.
19/6/1982 – Living Waters & Cornerstone to settle cost of Dinner & Dance.
7/8/1982 – Another Walkathon organised, 25 of them participated in this event, this time it was amended to Woodlands Centre Rd.
9/10/1982 – Living Waters helped out at Outstation at void deck of Blk 6 Marsiling Dr.
23/10/1982 – 16 of the members were transferred to another parish but with the same group
End 1982 – Number of members: 233
Year 1983:14/6/1983 – 1st Youth Walk by CAYC. 13 went for the walk.
14/8/1983 – Meetings are also conducted on Sundays at 10.30am.
7/12/1983 – 1st Camp at FMM House (Holland Rd)
End 1983 – Number of members: 250
Year 1984:21/1/1984 – Meetings began conducting in English on Saturdays only.
13/5/1984 – 1st Parish Recollection.
1/9/1984 – New Coding System was introduced. The format is T16/XXXX/XXXXXX. (eg. T16/1984/399271) It is to replace the existing 7-digit coding system, which was introduced in 1968. Living Waters code is T16.
21/11/1984 – Fund Raising for renovation begins.
End 1984 – Number of members: 269
Year 1985:23/3/1985 – Mass Attachments commenced for members of Living Waters
4/6/1985 – 1st Mt Ophir Trip, 167 members attended.
21/7/1985 – Living Waters began to upgrade its PA system in church.
30/11/1985 – 1st Disco organised by Living Waters. It received good response and about 70 tickets were sold.
End 1985 – Number of members: 288
Year 1986:8/3/1986 – 1st Church Cleaning done by youths of St Anthony's
19/4/1986 – 10th Anniversary of Living Waters. Celebration at Parish House with a small disco until midnight.
24/5/1986 – Walkathon organised, route amended to Marsiling Rd.
20/9/1986 – Dinner & Dance at Apollo Hotel. Poor response at that time.
1/11/1986 – 2 members became the leader of Living Waters. One of it was a secretariat and the other is the treasurer.
13/12/1986 – Youths made a 1st house visit to Mandai villages and Stephen Lee Rd corridors.
End 1986 – Number of members: 311
Year 1987:7/2/1987 – Parish Retreat, 28 members attended.
12/6/1987 –Certain members were helping out on St Anthony's Feast Day.
19/12/1987 –1st Christmas Party. Enjoyable for every youth members.
End 1987 – Number of members: 340
Year 1988:12/3/1988 – 30 of them went to Taman Negara Camp.
26/6/1988 – Saturday meetings are now conducted in English, with Sunday meetings still in Chinese.
18/9/1988 – 1st Youth Canteen.
10/12/1988 – 2nd Mt Ophir Trip.
End 1988 – Number of members: 366
Year 1989:25/2/1989 – All meetings are conducted in English.
15/7/1989 – Swapping of members in two different parishes.
9/12/1989 – 2nd Disco organised with good response from every members.
16/12/1989 – Family Christmas Party.
End 1989 – Number of members: 380
Year 1990:10/2/1990 – Fund Raising for new church building was set up.
3/3/1990 – 140 members of 1976-1978 were withdrawn in phases, 35 goes to RCIA.
21/4/1990 – 36 members attended the Fund Raising Dinner
27/10/1990 – Parish Recollection. Good response.
22/12/1990 – Family Christmas Party.
End 1990 – Number of members: 257
Year 1991:9/3/1991 – Weekly Donations for the New Church Building Fund commenced. Lasted for 2 years.
20/7/1991 – 42 members of 1979 were withdrawn.
23/11/1991 – Mass attachments were revised accordingly.
End 1991 – Number of members: 238
