What do they do in a Church/during a service?

Sorry but I really don't know.
Been to a certain church which used to be along Paya Lebar area. The experience was rather... astounding.
But how does a normal/typical service runs? -
My church service usually starts off with worship songs. Followed tithes & offerings collection. A short 30min - 60min sermon after collection. Some annoucement if there's any. End off with some song and beneniction by the Pastor.

my church follows the anglican liturgy....3 major posture: Sit, Stand, Kneel.

The Sermon (or Homily) is a short talk given by the pastor/priest to the congregation. It's usually a summary of the Bible readings for that day and the lessons to be taken home.
Homily is the most boring part to many members, but it's interesting if one makes the effort.
Benediction is the last part of the service, where the Pastor prays for God's blessing on all the congregation. -

That Sun Ho said she's not a pastor cos the Taiwanese have the conception that a pastor=someone who preach but Sun Ho don't preach, she's leading worship (sometimes) but her main job is a counselor. Back then, a lot of girls thought she's cool (me too) but changed my mind right after her second album was released. Personally, i find chc very crappy. At first, say that she's a 'missionary set out to be the light in the pop music/to the world' but there's a lot of christians singers/musicians. What the crap..
Anyway, she's still considered as a pastor cos she graduate from pastor's sch.

pastor school? think you are either refering to Bible or Theological College?
Anyway, my understanding is, as long as one is ordained as a pastor by the church, then is a pastor, if not ordained, then not pastor lah. -
Don't jump conclusion into saying CHC is that particular church. Wait for the thread-starter to make the decission of whether to reveal the church name or not

Experience ah... just say that I've never seen so many people fall on to the ground almost simultanously. And I didn't laugh. Aloud.
But honestly, shouldn't CHC be trying to clear up the discrepencies in names? It's almost like telling people that she's not a pastor, yet she's "enjoying" the benefits of a pastor (if there are any at all). As a "Pastor", I feel that she's too flamboyent while as a singer, she's too "Christian" to suit everyone.

For Protestant services, usually worship comes first. There is a practical reason to it: to allow more latecomers to come in without disrupting the sermon later .. and ensure they are in time for the offeringsOriginally posted by Robotics999:Back to topic.

Maybe another practical reason is for the speaker (can be your own pastor or other church's pastor or reverend) to get prepared.
The worship leaders run the show for the first part. Then they pass the mike to the speaker. In between you can have the monthly eucharist and offerings session (where they pass the bags around).
The sermon is usually about how to live your daily Christian living, how the works of the biblical figures are relevant in today context. You might be knowledgable but still can find some insights or two.
A service is about worship too. You sing song and praise the Lord. Don't think anyone can get bored by this? -

The "one touch to forehead and fall to the ground" is called slaying of the spirit. It is a common sight in charismatic churches (but then I never seen it in NCC before .. lol)
Interestingly it is something none of the dissenting Christians dare to try, 'cos this is effectively testing the Lord their God.
Personally I do not believe every "slain" person is genuine .. perhaps much of it is psychological? -

Impractical to have someone to catch them in front .. cos due to the way the "ceremony" is conducted, they will clear the space in front for the pastor to move.
also if fall in front hit the pastor how?
at least in the bible we can be assured none of the people suffered injury due to falling on their face?
