This is a discussion forum right?
One good thing abt being 'academic' here is that they force you to reveal your sources and to be as close to the 'truth' as possible, if saying from the perspective of this forum.

You are also guilty of being very academic.

hope I am not one of those you described.Originally posted by Icemoon:It is just like writing academic papers .. quoting here and there.
I always like your reply for the personal touch.Originally posted by Chin Eng:hope I am not one of those you described.
I don't believe I have ever quoted without giving my personal feel on any topic. And most of the time, I do not quote. Or if I do, I ALWAYS give my source.
It is important to state one's personal opinion on any matter because mere quoting is acting like a parrot, regurgitating everything without the need to digest.
Anyway, I think your thread title is not too accurate. Shouldn't it be Christian forumites too academic?
i do it from memory, experience [experience of Bible truths] and years of studying......i edit my posts most of the time because there are some ideas i cant get through straight in English.......i am not a good english speaker but i can write it better than i can speak it. But even if i am writing, there are still words that are not accurate after reviewing it. and so explains the many edits i do.Originally posted by Icemoon:ok .. I suspect some of you will ask "what's your point?"
The point is, how much time do you take to compose one Christian reply? For example, does Ironside reproduce from memory or he flips his books fervently while typing?
I quote Bible passages to prove my statements about someone asking about Bible topics. I want to show him or her that what i am saying is not my own idea but from the Bible so as not to leave doubt about the statement whether that was my own idea or from the Bible.Originally posted by Icemoon:It is just like writing academic papers .. quoting here and there.
You are doing fine.... quoting from outside sources and the Bible is not wrong. What's jarring to the peeps is just an outright quotation with no explanation.Originally posted by Ironside:i do it from memory, experience [experience of Bible truths] and years of studying......i edit my posts most of the time because there are some ideas i cant get through straight in English.......i am not a good english speaker but i can write it better than i can speak it.
