The state of Johor was a sovereign nation before it transfer its sovereignty to the new country called Malaysia. Well, of course hopefully the Malaysians would abide by the Independence agreement, else if they are peckish enough, just like what one guy said about tracing the indestructibility of the Jewish state or land to the Bibles way back those time blah blah blah, they can go fight the same way if they want to, that the land belongs to them before the British came and all that.

Johor was a state. Actually Johor already relinquished its sovereignity when the Federated Malay States were formed under the British.
Johor did not transfer its sovereignity to Malaysia. Johor IS Malaysia. The sultans of Johor enjoy citizenship in Malaysia. -
