Who are your favourite hymn writers?

  Personally I feel the hymnal book is a priceless gem. Those more charismatic churches pple are missing out a lot.

  I find Marty Haugen's 'Mass of Creation' breath-taking, especially the Gloria, Doxology and Sanctus.
  
  I like George Frederik Handel's classical and sacred works too, the latter include 'Joy To The World' and the 'Hallelujah Chorus'.

  Yeah, i guess so..........i saw once a Methodist Hymnal.......basically the same hymns

  We do. It's normally with the hymnals, unless the Church prints the hymns and readings on sheets of paper. But at my church there are both missals and hymnals. What else would you like to know?

  Charismatic (CHC, NCC, FCBC, Hope) .. Bible-Presybterian .. and some churches dunno what denomination one.
  
  But hey .. let me tell you .. a Lutheran Church is damn cool 'cos it reminds me somehow of the Jewish synagogue.

  I was barred entry that time 'cos of security. The furthest I went was outside their door but inside the gate. And damn .. did I tell you the security guard was Roman Catholic?
  
  I said Lutheran Church reminds me of synagogue 'cos the latter has a sanctuary (or dunno what you call it) .. the box/enclosure in the middle where I presume the Torah would be read. And the Lutheran Church has it! Except the box is in front. Note this box is not the pulpit. Cool!

  Curiousity. Since a synagogue is right at our doorstep (sg is small country you see .. ) .. why not go in and see see?

  Yeah, it's a beautiful country...........my mom with my sis went on vacation there just this year. Next time, maybe i'll tag along.

  We have hymnbooks in church, but they can vary from parish to parish.

  err.... i goto clear a misconception bout charismatic churches. Not all charismatic churches "miss out a lot" on hymms. Some still retain the traditions to a certain degree. Take for example COSB (Church of Singapore), tho they may be charismatic but they still sing hymns during their praise & worship services. In fact they have a compiled list of hymns.

  Yeah FAnny Cosby...........................Fanny is not great because she composed more or less 8,000 hymns.........rather she is great because she composed 8,000 hymns being blind.
