Thanks macjoe...i am already on pegylated interferon and ribavarin before I relapsed. So far I do not think Singapore has infergen. Will have to see what my doc says on 30th dec.Originally posted by macjoe:laoda, this might get you up on your feet for a while:
Pegylated interferon-a plus ribavirin is significantly more effective than standard interferon-a plus ribavirin or pegylated interferon-a alone. It is the most effective pharmaceutical treatment for patients at risk for cirrhosis and other liver diseases.
All microorganisms need iron to reproduce, including HCV. HCV-positive patients with higher serum iron levels are more likely to develop chronic infections, and those with lower levels are more likely to resolve infections spontaneously.
There were favorable results in all arms of a trial of pegylated interferon-a in combination with mycophenolate mofetil, amantadine, and ribavirin for the treatment of relapsers and non-responders to interferon-a. All pegylated interferon-a combinations had appreciable virologic response rates. Pegylated interferon-a plus amantadine and ribavirin had the most favorable benefits.
Drugs to Reduce Side Effects of Interferon and Ribavirin
Epoetin Alfa. Interferon-a and ribavirin combinations sometimes induce anemia severe enough to force dose reduction or discontinuation of ribavirin. When epoetin alfa was added to the combination treatment in a 16-week trial, patients were able to maintain their ribavirin dose and hemoglobin levels. In anemic patients, epoetin corrected anemia and enabled 84% of patients to maintain their ribavirin dose.
Dronabinol. Anorexia, nausea and vomiting are common side effects of ribavirin and interferon-a as well as major causes of discontinuation of treatment. Dronabinol is a synthetic cannabinoid approved for treatment of side effects AIDS patients on cancer chemotherapy. In a clinical trial, 40% of the patients agreed that dronabinol was an effective treatment of major side effects caused by ribavirin and interferon-a.
A more recent therapy is Infergen. I would think a combination than mono therapy is more effective.

And please avoid alcohol.
hey thanks I heard of it....haven't try yet.....hopefully i can continue my western medicine before I decide on herbal (becoz no herbal has yet to cure pple of hep c yet)...Originally posted by breytonhartge:hey,
have you tried taking milk thistle? It is supposed to be a natural supplement that can help with hepatitis.
Not all milk thistle products are made the same but do you know why milk thistle is considered potent for all hepatitis patients?Originally posted by laoda99:hey thanks I heard of it....haven't try yet.....hopefully i can continue my western medicine before I decide on herbal (becoz no herbal has yet to cure pple of hep c yet)...

In fact, your best therapy may not be solely on mono drug therapy but combinational therapy. The more the better. When you look back at your own case, you can understand why after a period of time, the virus no longer responds to the same drug (it got around it) and resurfaces.
Switching to infergen, for example, may produce -ve results for say 12/24 months but just sticking to it alone could see a relapse as with your earlier therapy. After infergen, what's next? You're back to square one.
do u noe where to get the good efficacy milk thistle?Originally posted by macjoe:Hepatitis slowly destroys your liver cells leading to cirrhosis - liver hardening which in turn blocks the flow of blood.
Silymarin is a liver anti-oxidant and it prevents cirrhosis from developing protecting your liver cells from dying from the deadly toxins. It is best used in the early stages of a diseased liver.
Note that some milk thistle are sold as mere powdered form of the herb. It's efficacy is very low because the active ingredient, silymarin is very low.
nope what does it do?Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:have you heard of a drug called Multiferon?
