Capital Punishment is legitimate, but it's not very good. The original purpose of Capital Punishment is to protect society from dangerous criminals. But isn't life imprisonment effective enough?
And Capital punishment is the lightest sentence a court can give to any convict. -

Study the OT and you may understand how much God hates sins and how He had dealt with sinful people who did not want to repent. God's characters will not changed but He can change His mind if one chose to repent and turned to obedience. Want examples? Okay, one example is people of Nineveh. Want detail? Read the OT yourself. God can just destroy everyone because all sinned. This is so simple to Him. But He loves His creations and has a plan for each of them - He has given us a chance to repent. So now He commands all people everywhere to repent - He wants everyone to come to repentant and not be perished. Jesus has become the sacrificial Lamb so that the old system of atonement (which is so ma fan and imperfect) does not apply anymore.
If God is not love, He would not cause His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
I thought this is simple? God loves everyone and He still provides the needs of everyone with rain water and sunlight - for the evil and the good; the righteous and the unrighteous. Indeed God is love.
