This is to Ironside and Oxford Mushroom also:Originally posted by vince69:oh. the names of Joseph's 2 sons are in the list.
It seems that these two are born to Joseph before Jacob joins him in Egypt.Originally posted by Ironside:i don't understand.......Manasseh and Ephraim were biological sons of Joseph
Jacob adopted Joseph's two sons. Let them not succeed their father, in his power and grandeur in Egypt; but let them succeed in the inheritance of the promise made to Abraham. Thus the aged dying patriarch teaches these young persons to take their lot with the people of God. He appoints each of them to be the head of a tribe.
Please explain the commentary.Originally posted by vince69:It seems that these two are born to Joseph before Jacob joins him in Egypt.
I found this comment from Matthew Henry's commentary on this event quite interesting

You talking rubbish lah.Originally posted by Ironside:the lost tribes is not a myth.......Israel had 12 tribes right?
they had a civil war and the kingdom was divided into two right? The northrern kingdom was called Israel -composed of 10 tribes. the southern kingdom is called Judah -composed of two tribes Judah and Benjamin.
the 10 tribes or the northern tribe was taken captive by the Assyrian empire. they were exiled there. From there they got scatttered and that's where they got lost.
The souther tribe Judah and Benjamin was taken captive to Babylon some 7o years later.
When the returned 70 years later, they returned to their land, and these became the inhabitants of Judah- they were called Jews during the Lord's time.
The ones who occupied the places were the 10 tribes used to live were occupied by a mixed bred- the Assyrian empereor decided to place there many nationalities. the very few Israelites who were left there intermarried with these guys and they comprised as the Samaritans in the NT.
13 The priests and the Levites who were in all Israel presented themselves to him from all their territories. 14The Levites had left their common lands and their holdings and had come to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons had prevented them from serving as priests of the Lord, 15and had appointed his own priests for the high places, and for the goat-demons, and for the calves that he had made. 16Those who had set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came after them from all the tribes of Israel to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord, the God of their ancestors. 17They strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and for three years they made Rehoboam son of Solomon secure, for they walked for three years in the way of David and Solomon.James 1:
1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings.I hardly call that "lost".
Originally posted by vince69:basically, its like this,
These 2 sons of Joseph are born in Egypt before Jacob came to join them, and their mothers is a Egyptian. ie. they are not born under the house of Jacob (Israel), so in order for them to have Abraham's promises, Jacob adopt them under himself, thus qualifying them to inherit God's promises to Abraham.
(personallu understanding only)
this is shifting the goalpost.Originally posted by Ironside:Chronicles during the time of Rehoboam- the exiled did not happen yet. it happened years later.
notice their is still the kingdom of Judah and Israel
but i've shown conclusively that the 10 tribes WERE NEVER LOST.Originally posted by Ironside:yeah, the lost tribes refered to those 10 tribes of Israel. That's what is refered when it says "THE LOST TRIBES OF ISRAEL"
When cultist say: " i am a part of the lost tribe of Israel, they refer to that.
