They understood the sermon meh?

Here's an interesting question.
We know, as a matter of fact, Mass was conducted in Latin last time.
The problem is, a large majority of the Christians (ahem .. this is history qn .. no denominational squabbling pls) were uneducated. They probably don't understand any language beyond their native and local tongue (eg. an Italian in USA can speak Italian and English). So it is questionable whethere they understood what the priest was muttering every Mass. Or comprehend the hymns they sung.
So who taught them Latin?

That's why some chaps like Wycliff and Tyndale translated the Bible to English...........they were persecuted by the Church for doing this........The servants of the church whipped the exhumed body of Wycliff when they found his body.
The other guy Tyndale was burnt at the stake.........his last prayer was "Open the eyes of the king, O Lord"
Some years later, the reformation came to England........and the new king called James directed that the Bible be translated into English by royal order.........hence the Authorized Version or King James Version of the Bible came into being.......but it took the Catholic Church in Europe more years before they realised the need for scriptures in the vernacular...... -
The Church was definitely slow with the distribution of Holy Scripture in the vernacular, but not without a good reason. Looking at today, we can derive hundreds and thousands of interpretations regarding certain doctrines using the Bible. The Church controlled the translations merely to prevent heresies from being taught.

Hah. The former parish priest in my church is super anti-PAP. Once we had ISD agents sitting in during Mass.
