I only come across members of one church that put other protestant church down and it is a mega church... you know yah ... The intent of the document 'Gift of Scripture" by the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales is to help Catholics better appreciate the teachings of the Second Vatican Council on the important role of the Bible in the Catholic faith. It is not to point out some revolutionary understanding of the Bible.
That anyone would make news of the fact that the Catholic Church does not always take Scripture literally is a sign of ignorance.
For example, in the 13th century, the great philosopher St. Thomas Aquinas had already expounded on the difference 'senses' of understanding Scripture. This can be seen from his Summa Theologiae Part 1, Question 1, Article 10. The online version can be found here:
