  That fellow is considered "buay kan" IMHO.I would tell him that his son has a right to choose his own religion and if he is unhappy, he has to just accept it.

  i would rather the kid keep an open mind and decide when hes older and more mature. being a teenager how can you be sure that he is making an "independent" decision and not one under undue influence and peer pressure ?

  if you're so concerned as a parent, can always crash their activities and see what they are doing. No one is stopping you from going to his church, I believe.

  so its reasonable that the parent has the right to request that schools remain secular and be inform if otherwise so.

  School is always secular. Methodist schools are not exactly madrasahs.

  this is tricky. MOE may have a definition somewhere which I'm unaware of.
  
  if you ask me, I'd say they are secular, but have rich christian traditions. I base my view on
  
  1. their teachers employed by MOE and not all are Christians.
  2. the subjects are mandated by MOE, the syllabus is fixed (no creationism pls)

  methodist schools as far as i know have devotions every morning, and chapel services once every week. asides from that, the syllabus is secular. Teachers are not neccessarily christians, though most are.
  
  the chapel services are supposedly compulsory, but since it is the first block of the day, people who don't want to go for it usually skip it and come later.

  Chapel services are not compulsory.I have Buddhist and Muslim friends who could use the time for self-study.

  Chapel time are not compulsory for Methodist School.
  
  Boys' Brigade operates with the same rules and regulation HQ set out. If it operates differently, it's subjected to HQ investigation. It's a very clear cut in the very first place that it's a CHRISTIAN based CCA. The sponsoring church can be a Methodist Church, Anglican, others. No rulings on particular church.

  I dont believe in the part where you are too young to choose your religon, just does not make sense to me.Not like if you become Muslim/Buddhist or whatever its something you are going to regret for the rest of your life.

  and i thought it should been known that boys/girls brigade has associations with christianity as well, i still find it surprising that some people do not even know this.
  
  I find the mother a little weird, she does not bother about finding out about her son's CCA but want to dash in when he wants to be converted.Rather ironic

  Father lah .. not Mother .. Ong Swee Seng (Wang Rui Sheng?) is male name.
  
  Actually I understand where crazy monkey is coming from. He got a pt in saying the parent has a right to be concerned when his son converted. And parents shd be concerned as youths are susceptible (just look at CHC members!)
  
  But this is diff from treating them as babies .. every decison only parent can make, child too young to make. tat's why i said if parents are concerned, then go check up what their children are doing in school or in church.
  
  hence tat was why I said if my son gonna choose buddhism .. i make sure he is in safe hands with eternal now or the dharma centre.
