Doc asked patient to pray
THE letter, 'Should teachers seek to convert pupils?' (ST, Oct 1), reminded me of an incident at a specialists' clinic in a hospital some years ago.
I was consulting an oncologist on the outcome of a CT scan. Grim-faced, he told me the bad news: my cancer had returned.
Fully aware that I was not a Christian, the doctor asked me to kneel with him and pray. This made me even more distraught because the conclusion was that conventional medicine had run its course and divine intervention was needed.
At that critical moment, I felt that faith and medicine should not have been dispensed in the same prescription.

i wouldnt say that this is wrong or anything, but the doctor should have considered the religion of the patient and the feelings of the patient before introducing religion as a form of cure for the sickness. Also, i believe that if the patient wanted praying as a solution to her sickness, she would have been better of at a temple/church/mosque dont you think? i think that the doctor should have just stuck to the normal medical routines, and steer clear from personal issues like religion. they are afterall just doctor and patient. -
Well, the doc should have at least explain the benefits of faith healing...

My impression from this short one-sided article is the doctor is a bit cock leh. (sorry such harsh word comes from me)
Why can't he just pray for the patient?

Well the doc should have considered his patient's religious preferences. But then he might have also been overwhelmed such that he really thinks thats the only way out for the patient. -

actually, i was going to start a thread on something similar.

lets give a hypothetical situation.
if i am a government premier and they need my approval to give the green light to make abortion legal. but yet it goes against the teachings of my church (lets disregard denominations here). if i choose to go ahead and give the approval of abortion. am i sinning although i am doing it in the best interest of my country. or shld i just quit? which doesn't solve the problem.. because the next guy taking over would probably give the green light anyway.

Isn't evangelism the main mission of a mission school?There is always a choice and I'm getting sick and tired of listening to people making certain choices and not having the balls to walk away and instead trying to reform something that seems to offend them.
I'm not saying that aggressive evangelism is right, but at what point does giving information about religion to people become a crime?Let's not take the literals too literally and end up being worser off.
