Can the old and illiterate go to church and become christian

the church tries its best to educate the elderly people.
like before my Grandpa was baptised (he passed away 2 yrs after his baptism) ... a sister (nun) came over to my grnadparents' house everyweek to explain what the church is about and to talk the gospel teachings (i'm still really grateful to her) and prepare them for Baptism.
MY grandparents were pretty happy with the sessions and really look forward everyweek ( i reckon they like the story and parables part)
on a side note, the Catholic church where i'm from has Teochew, mandarin and english masses. they might have other languages.. but i ain't too sure coz i nv attend those. i still find the Teochew Mass pretty cute though -
thinking back again .. Jesus came to save everyone.
so yes definately .. young or old. educated or illeterat. They are all welcome into the church -
I believe that God will never abondan those who believe in God but illiterate. He will make good arrangement for them.

haha... i'd like to point out smth from the bible.
when Jesus had diciples, there were a few of them who were fishermen, the ruffians of their time, uncouth, unlearnt, and confirm plus guarunteed illiterates. the delinquents of their time basically.
He didn't say "oh, you're no good" and stuff like that, but in the end, they were powerful ministers later on in pentecost time -

anyway .. in the catholic church .. we attend mass every weekend. during mass.. there will be 2 readings that the lectors will read out (so even if u r illiterate.. also no problem) and the priest will read out the gospel. even if u r old and illiterate .. u'll still be able to understand mah.
after the readings.. it will be followed by a homily (basically.. its an explanation and preeching on how to live according to biblical and christian principals) to explain what the passages mean. so even the old, not so clever and illiterate wun have a problem mah.
i actually learn a lot from these old folks by talking to them. i mean they have a wealth of life experience to draw from (they can be real naggy at times though ... lol ) even though they are not 'young' or 'educated' . such things dun really matter. -

hmm .. crazy monkey ah ..
to be honest hor... icemoon is more knowledgeable than most of us in eternal hope on religious stuff .. be it buddhism, jewish stuff, christianity, etc.
speaking of which .. till now.. i still dunno if he's christian
anyway .. i think he's framing is wrong la.
but the point he's trying to make is that many s'porean buddhist dunno their religion well. erm.. many lah .. not all. there are quite a lot of knowledgeable buddhist out there. dun flame me ah .. i respect religious harmony a lot
like many of my aunts and uncle .. to them Buddha is a God that they worship and they actually practise many things that are not in the 'pure' buddhist teachings like the 7th month things, etc. S'pore's buddhism is mixed up with Chinese traditions and aspects of Taoism i think.
coz i did a module in uni last time.. where they talked abt pure buddism... it really contrasted with what my relatives were doing which got me really curious. i think u can ask an eternal now abt this aspect... he's quite zai in Buddhist teachings.
anyway ... i am not going to judge Buddhist la.. coz Catholics are not perfect also (refering to myself btw ... i broke the commandments sooo many time le... ).
anyway.. peace yah? the above are my personal opinions.

In the olden days, Christians were mostly illiterate, except the rich ones.
They didn't even get to read the bible. They learnt about the faith solely from the church ministers and the sermons.
So to answer your qn, yes, old and illiterate can go to church and become Christians. -

Some of my church members went to China villages (forget where liao) there for mission. The christian network there is already very strong liao and are expanding quite fast. Basically, you know that people living there are illiterate. When they went there, there were amazed by how knowledgeable they are in the scripture. Some of them were "tested" and mind you they don't know.
