According to this year statistics (June or July) I read on newspaper (Straits Times), Christianity ranked higher than taoism and taoism drop to 4 to 6 %. Christianity ranker 3rd or 4th like that.Originally posted by An Eternal Now:5 years is quite little for a sharp change.
Don't know if it is rude to compare here. (but anyway, census aren't impt, just for the sake of general knowledge) I think there isnt much change or increase of Christian followers from 1990 to 2000.
The religious distribution is 31.1% Buddhist, 22.4% Chinese Traditional Beliefs/Taoism, 15.4% Islam, 12.5% Christianity, 3.7% Hinduism, 0.6% other religions, and 14.3% no religion - 1990 census
edit: sorry i have updated the 1990 census
Mod, pls close it or else this may cause religious disharmony.Originally posted by F Bunta:I hope this topic could be closed before SIS comes
Ok, thanks for the update inforOriginally posted by An Eternal Now:Sorry to correct a slight mistake: Buddhism is 4th in position.
In order:
Christianity - Islam - Hinduism - Buddhism
Yes, and that is based on the 2000 census because it is the latest. We have a new census every decade (1980, 1990, 2000, etc).Originally posted by happyharvest:According to this year statistics (June or July) I read on newspaper (Straits Times), Christianity ranked higher than taoism and taoism drop to 4 to 6 %. That's right. Quantity doesn't mean quality & quality doesn't mean quantity altho one can have both at same time. Also this is not an election where the majority wins & bullies the minority.Originally posted by laurence82:so what if a particular faith has the highest number of followers in a country, a region or the world?
so what if a particular faith has the highest number of churches, or temples or synagogues?
u will be worried if the one billion, two billion, three billion of them turn out to be potential jim jones...
get the idea?
I am beening very hot temper!Originally posted by James1:That leads me to a wonder of whether in Singapore, are there church more or temper? and also is the Christian beening the largest population in Singapore? In worldwide, YES!!!
How come i'm not in the circle?Originally posted by Icemoon:oh ya .. u better prepare your "defense".
I can almost see what is coming - laurence will come in question your purpose in comparing temples and churches. If things get tougher, heng will also join in. SIS might join in if he's free.
'cos you are already in the square.Originally posted by M©+square:How come i'm not in the circle?

btw, if not for the crusades.. if not because the Christian army won a few key religious battles during the medieval time.. Christianity will not be the dominant religion now.. Of course, colonisation by the Europeans in the last 2 centuries also helped to cement the status of the Religion in this part of the world..
Reading between the lines: War.. Blood.. Aggression.. Racial arrogance.. etc etc were some of the reasons accounting for the distribution of Religions in the world.. Nothing more, nothing less.. Of course, that's an atheist's perspective!

i tot Islam more ?Originally posted by happyharvest:I have a hard time understanding what you wrote. I guess there are more churches than temple in Singapore. No, in Singapore, Buddhism has the highest population. If I'm not wrong Christianity ranked number 3 or 4 in position. But when we say globally, Christianity has the largest population, followed by Isalm. Buddhism ranked number 6 in position.
If anyone has the latest statistic, please post here.
