Is there any laws in buddhism that restrict them from entering churches? I would say no such thing as not being a buddhists if they go churches. If they go churches but not following what christians are doing, why not. Secondly, being very dogmatic and holds very narrow views of the world, christianity have very few similarity with buddhism or in fact, similar faiths like sikhism, jainism or taoism.
Its very hard to be both at the same time. Buddhism doesnt believe in god for example, sumthing fundamental and basic needed to becoem a christian. -

Basically, it record buddha going to a tribe of people to spread his beliefs. The Kallamas basically. The kallamas werent so pleased. They said every wise men come and go, coming up with new reglious ideas, which is prety logical, and refute the other wise men. Then the cycle begins when a new wise men come, and refute the previous guys theories.
What Buddha answer support your point Buddhists be more open minded in going to church, but then again, liek i said, not all point of christianity could be adopted.

hmm.. today i "confronted" my parents bout his issue, less the "go churches they not buddhists " part.. apparently they said they go there and listen to some guy talking.. wasnt sure bout what, but is something concerning life issues and affairs... There is no restrictions made by Buddha regarding church-going, and my master's advise is that one can attend church, even attend their services as long as it is does not have any 'superstitious' things going around. If truth is so simple, then there wouldn't be many different religions, and in the case of christainity, it split into many denominations in the world. Simply said, when you advocate christ and god are the truth, its 'your' perspectives, hope you understand. But i still have to emphasise to you the reality of perspectives.

Lawyers are there to make the judge or jury sees the details and dig out the flaws in their opponent. Let's say Took really killed Huang Na and he wasn't insane at that time (meaning he is culpable for his actions). This is the truth - very simple .. Took murdered someone. And let's say the former air stewardess threw the girl down the block. This is the truth - very simple .. she murdered someone. These truths are what the court sought to establish. Why they take so long to establish you can imagine .. prosecution and defence summoning their own witnesses, attempts to discredit your opponent by digging into events few months back, etc.
To establish a truth presupposes the truth exist. In your analogy, things may not be that simple due to the lack of laws in a certain country. For example, if Philippines lacks a "Computer Misuse Act", it will be difficult to prosecute a hacker in their courts. In that case, the analogy doesn't apply.
So in your case, the driver may be culpable for manslaughter, depending on how the law is phrased (legal definitions are usually very precise). He may be convicted for manslaughter (truth established) but his sentence awaits the judge's decision. Here we see another function of lawyers - they plead with the judge to reduce your sentence. -

You argued that the Christian view is narrow. He counter-argued the nature of truth is such that it is narrow. Of course he is presupposing there is a God who is the ultimate custodian of truth.
IMHO, some religions, especially those from eastern traditions, do not believe in truth. "Anything also can" seems to be their motto. -
now the last thing i want over the next few months is my parents "convert", due to super heavy influence by the church, its activity, and the guy who lured them there.. heard this influential guy (working for my dad now) is super anti-buddhist (will get angry when he see ppl burning joss-sticks)and i can sense his "intentions".
the weekly visits are making me very very upset. like my family splitting up.. some more its EVERY sunday.. family day le!!

Is to win an argument to continue debating? Partly yes. To win an argument derives from hosts of reasons and attitudes, such as being assertive, being opinionated, total belief..etc
The first two would have come as a result of influence from westerners, that being the original source of christianity to the east as during the colonial times.
Lack of the third character? so far, i guess its u guys total belief in books like the bibles that results in the tone in this forum...
Many times, people misconstrue continual deabte as being insistent. What happene to the drive to add one's thoughts and information to the already existent pool?
