Is there any laws in buddhism that restrict them from entering churches? I would say no such thing as not being a buddhists if they go churches. If they go churches but not following what christians are doing, why not. They go churches perhaps they want to find out more about the Truth.Originally posted by laurence82:if they go churches they not buddhists liao lor
remind me of my secondary school physics teacher, brilliant
guy, believe in a Hindu goddess and Mary at the same time, altho he know its aganst conventions and such, he finds it nothing wrong personnally
Half right half wrong.Originally posted by jnwk:Is there any laws in buddhism that restrict them from entering churches? I would say no such thing as not being a buddhists if they go churches. Yes you are right when you say christianity is narrow. In fact, isn't Truth narrow?! Can 1 + 1 = 22?Originally posted by laurence82:Half right half wrong.
Do read up more on Kallama Sutra to support your points, In fact you have a point there.
Secondly, being very dogmatic and holds very narrow views of the world, christianity have very few similarity with buddhism or in fact, similar faiths like sikhism, jainism or taoism.
Its very hard to be both at the same time. Buddhism doesnt believe in god for example, sumthing fundamental and basic needed to becoem a christian.
Too basic an analogy to use 1 + 1. We are talking things that are more complex than that. I think there are some chaps out there who can prove to u 1 + 1 isnt 2. Read this somewhere.Originally posted by jnwk:Yes you are right when you say christianity is narrow. In fact, isn't Truth narrow?! Can 1 + 1 = 22?
I do not know about Kallama Sutra. Please enlighten me with your Kallama Sutra . TY
hmm.. today i "confronted" my parents bout his issue, less the "go churches they not buddhists " part.. apparently they said they go there and listen to some guy talking.. wasnt sure bout what, but is something concerning life issues and affairs... (and may end up saying things bout human rights bla bla bla).Originally posted by laurence82:if they go churches they not buddhists liao lor

this a bit ironic here.. cos i tell them, some things are better left unsaid.
If someone knows this church, its Singapore Life Presbyterian Church (near Burlington Square), and they go from 1000 to 1230. anyone any idea what goes on at that time?
There is no restrictions made by Buddha regarding church-going, and my master's advise is that one can attend church, even attend their services as long as it is does not have any 'superstitious' things going around. My master was once a Christian pastor himself... and used to be active in preaching/writing Christian books before turning into a monk.Originally posted by Townlink 268:so Buddhists going to church weekly is acceptable and normal?

How complex can a truth be? If a murderer kill a person, he kills that person, no matter what the details are, e.g for fun, for money, siao, ... . If 1 + 1 not= 2, then why are you still using 1 + 1 = 2? How complex can a truth be? I think you are trying to make things complicated! People likes to colour the truth because they hate the truth and want to hide it.Originally posted by laurence82:Too basic an analogy to use 1 + 1. Basically, it record buddha going to a tribe of people to spread his beliefs. The Kallamas basically. The kallamas werent so pleased. They said every wise men come and go, coming up with new reglious ideas, which is prety logical, and refute the other wise men. Then the cycle begins when a new wise men come, and refute the previous guys theories.
What Buddha answer support your point Buddhists be more open minded in going to church, but then again, liek i said, not all point of christianity could be adopted.
Its too dogmatic and too narrow minded.
what is the TRUTH ?Originally posted by jnwk:Is there any laws in buddhism that restrict them from entering churches? I would say no such thing as not being a buddhists if they go churches. There is a Creator who made heaven and earth. The Truth of God and the Fall of Man; The Old Testament Law and the Truth of God; Jesus Christ, The Truth of God Incarnate. God is the source of all truth. His Son, Jesus Christ, Personified the truth. God has spoken through His Son and continues to speak through His Word, the Bible.Originally posted by 105090:what is the TRUTH ?
sin-ing and all that?
Yes you are right when you say christianity is narrow. In fact, isn't Truth narrow?! Can 1 + 1 = 22?Maths is simple, no doubt but how about issues such as religion etc ? If truth is so simple, then there wouldn't be many different religions, and in the case of christainity, it split into many denominations in the world. If truth is narrow, why spread itself to catholic, jews, islam and even johava witness ?

Is it simple as 1+1 ? If things r tat simple then again we don't need lawyers
For christians out there: Remember that our purpose is to preach the gospel to the world and not to win an arguement so that we will not lose focus on what christianity is all about. In my case, I rather say tat the people out there should use their logical deduction and rational in making decisions tat is gonna affect his life tremendously. If u sense tat something is wrong with your religion, do not fear to take the first step into liberation
Go ahead, flame, i dont care anyway. Used to it.Originally posted by jnwk:How complex can a truth be? It seems to me that you are enjoying argueing and trying to win a debate.

I don't understand your second last sentence. Maybe you would like to re-phrase it. TY
To win an arguement is to continue debating no matter if that person choose to disagree. So, to put it simply, if I'm here trying to convince you but if I continue to argue with you even if your view points remain the same, then, I'm wasting to win the debate on whether or not there is a God and so on lor. I should be doing some other things contructive, like helping others understand more of God's words, preach to other people, and so on...Originally posted by laurence82:Go ahead, flame, i dont care anyway. Pls dont overreact . It is true I have once read somebody did prove 1 + 1 isnt 2, altho it could be done rather cleverly, it just to show things arent simple. Already I said 1 + 1 is too simple an analogy. Once there 'you' and 'I', there exists 'perspectives'. Its your word against mine. Its your definition of 'truth' vs my definition of 'truth'
Simply said, when you advocate christ and god are the truth, its 'your' perspectives, hope you understand. But i still have to emphasise to you the reality of perspectives.
Not to win an argument? Contradictory. Once you have to spread 'god's words', and most christians admit as much, you have to preach and deny other people faith. Meaning, you have to win an argument on this. Dont want to win an argment? Got a alternative path for you guys?

Let's say Took really killed Huang Na and he wasn't insane at that time (meaning he is culpable for his actions). This is the truth - very simple .. Took murdered someone. And let's say the former air stewardess threw the girl down the block. This is the truth - very simple .. she murdered someone. These truths are what the court sought to establish. Why they take so long to establish you can imagine .. prosecution and defence summoning their own witnesses, attempts to discredit your opponent by digging into events few months back, etc.
Hmm .. I smell red herring here.Originally posted by laurence82:Pls dont overreact . now the last thing i want over the next few months is my parents "convert", due to super heavy influence by the church, its activity, and the guy who lured them there.. heard this influential guy (working for my dad now) is super anti-buddhist (will get angry when he see ppl burning joss-sticks)and i can sense his "intentions".

Sheesh, u still dont get my point, note: its not that you dont agree with my point... , i hope my point dont get misconstrued further....Originally posted by jnwk:To win an arguement is to continue debating no matter if that person choose to disagree. If 1 + 1 is simple. Let's make it a bit more complex. 2 + 5 = 7 not 2 + 5 = 9 right?! Has anyone proven 2 + 5 not= 7? Anyway, thank you for your feedback. I will do something more contructive next time.
Okay, bye.

Most have a core fundamentals. Taosim and Buddhism believe in cyclical cosmic change, while christianity has a very fixed set of 'truth', like the universe revolves around the earth kinda thing.Originally posted by Icemoon:You argued that the Christian view is narrow. IMHO, some religions, especially those from eastern traditions, do not believe in truth. "Anything also can" seems to be their motto.
week after week, m getting sick and upset of it.. i dun want the worse to come through.. sure, i may be over-reacting, but gota be prudence.Originally posted by laurence82:Anti religious people set the tone for disharmony within ur nation, especially for small country like singapore.
i would have thought your parents go church because they wish to receive salvation, but if the effort comes thru anti faith stance and all that, its a sad trend....
Its Singapore Life Presbyterian Church (near Burlington Square), and they go from 1000 to 1230.Originally posted by Icemoon:i suggest your parents look for another church .. haha
wait .. what's the name of the church again? And the sermon your parents always attend? Maybe I go there and investigate ..
nopeOriginally posted by Townlink 268:week after week, m getting sick and upset of it.. i dun want the worse to come through.. sure, i may be over-reacting, but gota be prudence.
still, religion remains a sensitive issue..
u r a christian i guess?
