i am not sure...all i know it was in one language only: LatinOriginally posted by Icemoon:then why would the bible not get translated into the native languages?
I personally believe this process have to happen.Originally posted by laoda99:i am not sure...all i know it was in one language only: Latin
At that time, the church has the final say in the intepretation of GOD's word.
When the reformation starts, different translations start popping out, which is a good thing for the lay men.
bad thing when pple start to have different intepretations as the bible is available to all...
but our GOD is a GOD of order, not confusion...what says u....Originally posted by M©+square:I personally believe this process have to happen.
It is the will of God/plan of God.

ya lah .. but as time progresses, cannot be only Latin right?Originally posted by laoda99:i am not sure...all i know it was in one language only: Latin
the official text used by the church that time was the vulgate (latin) bible...Originally posted by Icemoon:ya lah .. but as time progresses, cannot be only Latin right?
Instead of saying it's inevitable. I would add on, it is inevitable because it's God's plan for it to happen.Originally posted by laoda99:wat i feel: the reformation was inevitable. The Catholic Church responded too late to Martin Luther's demands. Had the church chose to reform itself, which Martin Luther would probably have preferred, it would not have broke up like wat it is now.
I can't say whether it is a good/bad thing. The bible was made available to laymen. But some reformers become as unforgiving as the pope, condemning those who dun share their ideas.
No church is perfect. As a result of the reformation, the Catholic Church become aware of its ills and began its counter-reform movement, which is a good thing to draw believers back into the faith.
It is just my opinion on the Reformation, no ill feelings please...
ya i was saying the RC got to move with the times too .. the period after the reformation was the enlightenment which stressed on rationality. You think the RC can obstensibly survive in the 20th century with only Latin?Originally posted by laoda99:during the period of the reformation it was then translated into different languages...
yah .. if never split .. god knows how big is the church today. intimidating and yet cannot attract many people 'cos there is no "cheap" grace and priests as magicians or singers.Originally posted by M©+square:I believe that the sovereign hand of God is in this reformation.
