i agree with you manz..... but alot of other Christians dun see eye to eye on these issues with me.....Originally posted by laoda99:Just to clear up some doubts, simply by Baptism or going to Church doesn't mean one is saved. One is saved only when he is convinced that Christ died for us becoz he loved us.
Christians are humans and fallible like anyone of us. When one become a Christian, one should try to do his best to emulate Christ's love and forgiveness. I believed not just Christians, but pple of other faith have bad eggs also.
I think approach is very important. The image of Christians have been tarnished by some who is not tactful in dealing with people. I too viewed Christians as belonged to some exclusive club b4 I become a believer. Now I just see Christians as any ordinary people who have their faults too. Nobody's perfect. We should try to give and take, forgive and forget.
I wont use the word 'mandatory', it is too strong a word. I would use 'encouraged'. Church is the only place where believers can have communion and encourage one another.Originally posted by dragg:for christians it is mandatory to go.

just picked up a book on cults, from the early pagan ones to christian cults to the modern charismatic or death cults
On the topic of christian cults, it just assume, but not believe, the original Christian theology foundation was laid out by Constantine at the Council of Nicaea and St Augustine.
So the rest is considered cults, like arianism, waldensians whose heirs are the calvinists, manichaesim, etc etc
But i believe i am digressing

with regards to baptism, does a protestant require rebaptism should he converted to catholism? (e.g. Cardinal Newman, was he rebaptised?)Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:I'll disagree with the part about baptism. God gave us baptism for a reason. But that's a story for another day.
hmm....dun mean to upset u if i used a term which u do not agree...Originally posted by shade343:Wo are you referring to when you say "non believers"? What is your definition of a "non believer"?
In case you were wondering, those baptised in other churches need not be baptised again. is it the same in catholic church, whereby only baptised believers can partake in holy communion?Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:In case you were wondering, those baptised in other churches need not be baptised again. This is of course subjected to a number of factors not limited to,
1) The formula used (I baptise you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit)
2) The intention (whether one is willing to be baptised in the first place.)
Of course, sometimes there are grey areas, hence a need for an interview by the parish priest.
Nah, Cardinal Newman wasn't baptised again. He just made a statement of loyalty, that's all.
Nono, Im not offended in anyway....but I want to know when christians use this term, do they follow your definition or what?Originally posted by laoda99:hmm....dun mean to upset u if i used a term which u do not agree...
what i meant was non-christian....hope to clarify with u in this matter
good to hear you are not offended....i think most christians meant the same way as me when they use the term, not derogatory in any wayOriginally posted by shade343:Nono, Im not offended in anyway....but I want to know when christians use this term, do they follow your definition or what?
Only baptised Catholics may recieve the sacrament of Eucharist. The Eucharist is a Sacrament of Unity.Originally posted by laoda99:is it the same in catholic church, whereby only baptised believers can partake in holy communion?
Actually....is there a need to use such a term at all? I mean, when people labels others as a "Non-believer", it makes them sound a bit arrogant.Originally posted by laoda99:good to hear you are not offended....i think most christians meant the same way as me when they use the term, not derogatory in any way
but if they don't believe, we cannot possibly call them christians right?Originally posted by shade343:Actually....is there a need to use such a term at all? I mean, when people labels others as a "Non-believer", it makes them sound a bit arrogant.
then use what label?Originally posted by shade343:Actually....is there a need to use such a term at all? I mean, when people labels others as a "Non-believer", it makes them sound a bit arrogant.
