  Lent in the Church Calendar is a time for our renewed prayer and reflection on the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God two thousand years ago.
  The Cross is the central message of Christianity. But we live in a world which rejects this message. Such rejection may be outright or far more subtly expressed. Even Christians can (unknowingly) reject the message of the Cross!
  
  In Lent this year, we will give ourselves to the hearing of God’s Word concerning the Cross of Christ and His call to us to ‘take up your cross daily.’ Let us meditate upon these words of Scripture – ‘the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.’ (1 Cor 1:18 )

  Suffering, You chose to stay
  within the grip of deathÂ’s dark way.
  With one word, Your awesome power
  could have freed You that same hour.
  But Your agony led to victory,
  as You laid down Your life for me.
  Knowing what would come through loss—
  You chose to embrace the cross,
  to embrace the pain,
  to come forth as gold through suffering.
  To embrace the cross,
  Jesus, You placed Your life
  in the FatherÂ’s loving hands.
  and His power was displayed,
  as perfected You were made
  By embracing the cross.
  
  Suffering, I turn to You.
  Seeking relief from what IÂ’m going through.
  But Your will, Lord, not mine,
  will lead to deeper trust as You refine.
  Please break me, and remake me,
  so Your glory they will see.
  Knowing what comes through this loss—
  I choose to embrace the cross,
  to embrace the pain,
  to come forth as gold through suffering.
  To embrace the cross,
  I place my life
  in my FatherÂ’s loving hands.
  May His power be displayed,
  as more like You I am made
  by embracing the cross.
