Buddhists believe that one day, a Teacher-Savior will come
He is Maitreya, the future Buddha. His coming will herald a new dawn for mankind. Peace and harmony will reign supreme. Maitreya is often depicted as a rather fat, jolly individual, hence the term 'The Laughing Buddha'.
Shakyamuni Buddha predicted that due to the inevitable degeneration of the times, his own teachings would last just five thousand years before disappearing from this world. People will grow more and more immoral and their lifespan will gradually decrease, as will their health, stature and fortune.
Thereupon Maitreya will appear
Can the Second Coming of Jesus Christ be the same event ?

If you notice, Buddhists do not Pray to the image of the Coming-Savior, the Laughing Buddha. This conforms with the Commandment of not worshipping Idols............
The Laughing Buddha represents a concept of a future perfect world under the Saviour.
Shakyamuni Buddha also predicted that those who followed his teachings would complete the spiritual path under Maitreya's guidance.
