  at another forum (actually the grandmother of all forums, soc.culture.singapore) which i abandoned due to the viciousness of the denizens to newbies, we talked about this...
  
  kind of pissed off because a few of the creeps who caused these fires were singapore companies..
  
  also were very angry at the lack of political will to stop these deliberate fires to save a few thousand bucks by the timber companies... they just gave some people a few dollars to set the fires.. when the firefighters (amazingly) put the smaller fires out, the same people went and started them again...
  
  we figured short of putting a few pilots up there with WWII fighter planes to patrol the forests... and when they see anyone set these fires, they should just open fire at the arsonists...
  
  seeing the whole of SE Asia under a choking smog, it is heartbreaking to see these timber companies and some corrupt politicians cause so much damage for dirty money..

  they've talked about this since 1997.. still, the forests burn...

  it's been burning for years... the low grade coal or peat is on fire underground, just smoldering.. and when it's dry enough, the place just ignites....
