Well but in Exodus 20:4, one of the 10 commandments, " Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."Originally posted by NeonTetra:true.....crosses do not have any representation nowadays.....non-believers can also hang one round their neck and even ears??? back to topic....crucifix seems more infomative as it tells us the true story behind the cross whereas a plain cross no doubt signifies the resurrection of Christ but to some people have no meaning??
i thought it was keeping away VampiresOriginally posted by SingaporeMacross:But if you wear a cross, does it mean you are worshipping the cross that you are wearing? No, you use it to help to remind yourself about Jesus....
I havent actually seen the actual 10commandments(not the english translated) so i cant say much about how it is phrased but from that verse it simply says do not make images of any thing meaning no pictures of people or fishes or tress or whatever....aka no art now photos of your loved ones nor pictures of stars or moon(aka our flag)blah blah blah blah. Also as mentioned the ark has cravings of cherubs(lower angels) and infact alot of other things. But from what i understand the ending says thou shall not bow down to them nor serve them which since pictures and infact art exist in this world i'd say that God simply doesnt want us to worship other gods. The Crucifix like pictures and words serve as a reminder of what we are worshiping just like pictures in our wallets or albums of loved ones are there to remind us of them as friends, lovers or for they're acts.Originally posted by gasband:Well but in Exodus 20:4, one of the 10 commandments, " Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."
the words "of any thing that is in heaven above", could mean only God. What else could be in heaven above? Therefore God is commanding His people not to make any graven images (or in NIV, idols), even of himself, so why there be an graven image of Christ on the cross? That is direct contradiction to the God's word.
to me the crucifix only focus on the death of jesus.. yea maybe its like wat u say.. but alot of ppl i see bow down in front of the statue.Originally posted by |-|05|:I havent actually seen the actual 10commandments(not the english translated) so i cant say much about how it is phrased but from that verse it simply says do not make images of any thing meaning no pictures of people or fishes or tress or whatever....aka no art now photos of your loved ones nor pictures of stars or moon(aka our flag)blah blah blah blah. Also as mentioned the ark has cravings of cherubs(lower angels) and infact alot of other things. But from what i understand the ending says thou shall not bow down to them nor serve them which since pictures and infact art exist in this world i'd say that God simply doesnt want us to worship other gods. The Crucifix like pictures and words serve as a reminder of what we are worshiping just like pictures in our wallets or albums of loved ones are there to remind us of them as friends, lovers or for they're acts.
Alot of ppl bow before the cross also...the point is there really is not much difference between cross and crucifix.....they are both a simple identifying mark of the religon......Originally posted by dumbdumb!:to me the crucifix only focus on the death of jesus.. yea maybe its like wat u say.. but alot of ppl i see bow down in front of the statue.
the cross speaks of life. when jesus resuccrected.
oso spiritually... spirits can use the idollic figure to do funny stuff.. like my grandma freaked out when she saw the statue of jesus tore itself from the cross.![]()
bow to the cross. well, not in my church. the commandment was not to bow down to any idols. any image made in heaven or earth.Originally posted by |-|05|:Alot of ppl bow before the cross also...the point is there really is not much difference between cross and crucifix.....they are both a simple identifying mark of the religon......like they say....believe in the ideal not the idol
wat more. tts wat happened how to more?Originally posted by NeonTetra:huh? tell us more man.......................
Hey man. Don't confuse christian and roman catholism. Its two different thing. Catholics worship mother mary, christians only believe that mary is a human, hand picked by God to carry baby Jesus. But there is only one God. We don't worship mary.Originally posted by dumbdumb!:wat more. tts wat happened how to more?
my aunt brought me to some catholic ceremony b4.. wearing a brown string or something i forgot what it is called.. but they said mother mary appeared to a catholic monk and said anyone who wears this is given unlimited graces, the speaker went on to add, that even those not christian oso can wear, can go heaven. (they believe in purgatory - a place to pay for yr sins.)
if tt is the case, JC die for wat ah? abit contradicting. tt even when he died, u still hv to pay for yr sins. and tt non christians oso can wear that and go heaven.![]()

Hmm...sometimes little knowledge is a bit dangerous, and in this case, ignorance of certain issues are indeed damaging to the overall intellectual endeavor.Originally posted by saintboy:Hey man. IN this case, your quesiton can be directed to the catholics. Maybe they can answer you as to why is that so. J.C. died for us. No such thing as unlimited grace i think, just "sufficient" (more than enough) grace.
