The whole problem is rooted on our premise of efficiency.
We look at statistics and go, oh this seems cheaper and faster, this should be better!
Are we so averse to subsidising PTOs?
When we let the PTOs do as they wish, people kpkb.
When we try to reign them in and leverage using taxpayer $$$, people also kpkb.

When we gave 50 cent rebates for the 16 stations in the past, people said cheng hu no do enough.
When we gave in to demands to do more and finally made it free-of-charge for the same stations the same cynics asked if we are trying too hard. Don't you think this smacks of being a little unreasonable?

No, the point I am driving at is this: Have we become too used to expecting only good things and paying lip service only to the sacrificial lamb that we claim to expect? Is it hard to accept the fact that the free-market approach to public transport has its good and bads? And that "competitive tendering" too is a approach not without challenges? (the much-touted Scandinavian model is in danger of being dismantled as we speak)
Is this the paralysing type of "democracy" that we want?
... too many people straining the bus and mrt network ...
much of the 51 taros went MIA
epic lor ...
during Tibs days, everything work well
even when 178, 925 and later 190 receives complaints
well complaints were like negative feedbacks
now ...
With 300 new buses already lose so much ? Why sbstransit still can manage with more than 2000 new buses with 450 of them are DD which is double the cost of MAN A22?

that points to something wrong in SMRT management.
*faints*
Just my 2 cents here.
I rarely take SMRT buses, but I have noticed on the few occasions I've taken them, a number of people just tap their cards on the exit reader just after boarding the bus rendering the trip as one stop. The revenue leaking this way could be significant. All it takes is a software fix on the ezlink system to have the exit readers in the off mode the minute the exit doors are closed and better enforcement.

those r not creepy old buses , only creepy lousy maintenance

Same observation.I also observe the same thing when I took yishun town and feeder bus services such as 804,806 and others, most of the people just tap their cards on the exit reader just after boarding the bus.
Cash cow Bus services like 190 always screwed up, complained to the MP also does not help. I guess DK and our million dollar salary transport minister should take a pay cut or step down!

just to save that few cents ...
BTW new trip = 73 cents
1 full bus = 132 pax
if 1% does this
70 trips * 1.32 * 8 cents * 30 days = $221.76
1 year = $2,698.08
it all adds up

SBST has a system that detects how long between your tap on the entry and exit. If it is much below 45 sec, which is usually the time taken between 2 short stops, then SBST would check the CCTV camera for the person [ All ez-link cards have unique serial codes behind ]. If he DID alight 1 stop, case close. If he didn't, you know what will happen
